Got a smartboard installed in my classroom today!

After waiting for 2 years due to delays, I finally got a smartboard installed in my classroom today. I am such a airhead when it comes to technology so does anyone know of any good websites that are user-friendly that have or can teach me how to develop interactive activities for children using the smartboard?

It has been 5 years since I have made a power-point project so I am out of practice. Any new features to the power-point programs since 2002? My hubby said something about animation.

I want visually attractive lesson plans for my students so they can get more motivated to read and write. The more the better!

Thanks for any suggestions u give!

Does the school provide in-service training workshops to the staff on how to use newly installed technology?

I agree, this is better than Office 2003. It is Office 2007. I like it.

Yeah, it took me a bit to get used to the newer program, but I love it!

I've seen one teacher use the smart board for games that fit history class questions, using a Jeopardy or Match Game format.

Of course, the activities depend on the grade level.

I've used one for 5 years and LOVE IT!!!! I wish it was required for every classroom with deaf/hh students. There are a lot of lessons you can download from the Smart website. The Smart software is WAY better than the powerpoint (in my humble opinion). What kinds of suggestions do you need? What do you teach?

Here are some ideas, but they may not be relevant to the age/subject you teach:
* pull up the handwriting sheet and let students practice spelling (and/or handwriting) on the Smartboard with the colored writing tools (PS you can save the work and print it!)
* word sort - use the color block patterns to cover words or type the words on the blocks and students can manipulate them by moving them to sort the words, etc. (same for math activities)
* fill in blank sentences - create a word bank and let students move the words to the appropriate place in the sentence
* use the digital timer to time students (e.g., mult. facts or practicing timed tests) - it's very visual - I also use it for behavior management (especially at the beginning of class, where they can see the timer is set for them to hurry, get their supplies, and sit to work)
* USA map - have word bank at bottom with state names - let students pull the names from the bank and drag it on the map to the right place
etc. etc.
