RIT/NTID room
Hello,
One thing that sticks in my mind when I went to the RIT/NTID Open House was that we were in a International or whatever dorms building and as the group passed a room in the hallway there was this girl kissing this guy in bed. I worry about students who are hooking up or kissing up in my room (suppose I was up there). What do you do in this situation? If your roommate turns out to be some kind of nut who doesn't keep his private life elsewhere? Are there more private types apartment buildings? Or even dorms that have more responsible-type of students who know how to set their limits while respecting their roomates? I admit that the dorms were awkward because of space and who-knows-what-else-happens with students lifestyles that may be beyond your control. Thanks. |

check out what I saw in Sunday paper today;
UA roommates now bond online | www.azstarnet.com ® Back in 80's when I went to NTID, I have changed roommate or room because the roommate I was paired up by random assignment by NTID was not my type or not a type to get along with or whatever. Although, back then I would get a mail from NTID telling me my room assignment and it list building nbr, which floor room number then finally a student's name and address! I got a directory for first year student which I sent photo to so I would look up to see who my new roommate is. After arriving, it takes a while to change roommate or room through a processes. but now, they use facebook or myspace, it make their life easier and can change room ahead of time before they move in.

I was a student at NTID dormitory. I moved two times. One nut-head party, and another one a weirdo religious person was praying every single morning.
I heard the issue about a girlfriend and a boyfriend sleeping on the bed. In fact, it is very rude. The best way for you is to be patient and apply for another room. I don't remember how long it takes for you to move out after you apply for a new room. It is best to have a room with two beds - not three beds because of less interrupt during your homework hours. A single room is not a good idea because you will be very alone. Some RA dormitory employees did not a good job. (i.e. Residence Assistant) If you had some credits from your other college, you can apply to rent an apartment. Check the policy about renting an apartment because maybe some rules are changed. I am not saying that it is very hard to find a place to rent. You just have to do it and to see what happens. I would think that some people trick you that it is hard to find one. Don't trust them included your new friends & campus employees. Just have fun with them. |

Actually, it's their policy to try to avoid room changes. They want you to learn to deal with anything that happens in your room. They are likely to allow you to change rooms if the situation is really serious such as having a suicidal roommate, a roommate with a drinking/drug problem, a roommate who has completely no respect, etc.

Too bad there aren't any girls here talking about their experiences. That'd be more helpful. Anyway, I remember the laundry room in the tunnel area, does that mean that not all dorms are connected to that dorm and you have to carry your bag of clothes to the laundry room or what?

I had a one-time bad experence with a 2nd roommate. He was a strange pathetic liar, and he admited that he killed a girl on the campus. I was extremely upset with him because I was shocked. In two days later, he finally told me that he made it up, and I almost called the campus safety about him. I looked up on the newspapers to see if any girl is missing on the campus for a month. Nothing happened. Whew! (I found out his friend told me that my roommate went to a mental hospital for one week during a SVP. His friend never told me in the first place. I met a RIT psychologist about him. The pyschologist knows him because he was the one who took him to the hospital. They refused to tell me why. He looked normal. Actually, he is very handsome, but his inner mind was completely different.) It is no way for you or anybody to recongize a person who has an inner problem. I thought that you might want to know about it. |

You will not have to go outside at all for ANY of the laundry rooms. The Ellingson/Peterson/Bell dorms (Tower A/B/C) have a laundry room under Peterson where the Peterson hall meets the Ellingson hall. The Gibson dorm has one. Sol Heumann hall has one. The other laundry rooms are located wherever, but those shouldn't concern you since you will likely be placed in EPB, Gibson, or Sol. Oh, you're in luck... from what I heard, they are installing NEW laundry machines through the laundry rooms.

If someone was murdered, it is very likely that RIT will find out. If a student misses class for an unknown reason, the professor will likely contact their department and that department will contact ResLife and they will pass the word along to their staff. I was a Resident Advisor for almost 2 years. I had a few residents who were skipping class or not doing well in school. They had perfect attendance, then suddenly stopped going to class. They were doing well in class, then suddenly flunking a bunch of stuff. Either way, my boss was informed by RIT and passed the word along to me... for me to check into it and see what was wrong. It was usually depression, new girlfriend/boyfriend, drugs/alcohol, homesickness, etc.

Besides, Vamp, I thought you'd be in Texas by now? Hmm... something doesn't quite add up about your claims of moving to Texas in July.

So, are deaf students always going to be paired up with a deaf student? What is that like? I was reading the on-campus dorms information to know a bit about it.
Do you recommend mainstream for first year people who never met much other deaf people? |

http://rit.bncollege.com/ As for the new laundry machines, I was told by a couple staff members in the dorms. They said that this is a possibility. Maybe, it's true. Maybe, it's not. Who knows. What doesn't add up about my claims of moving to Texas?

![]() I'll reiterate: Just because you "heard" it from a bunch of people doesn't mean it's all true. Since I'm coming back to school next week, I will personally find out with my eyes to see if your claims regarding the laundry machines are true or not. The fact that your location still reads: "New York" and it's now August thus nullifying all your claims as false. |
