Discussion for a class

Hello everyone. I am taking a course through the University of Dayton, in Ohio, where I am studying to become an intervention specialist. One of our class texts is William Heward’s "Exceptional Children", which includes a chapter on “Deafness and Hearing Loss.” I am trying to understand some basic ideas about the Deaf culture that will help me to become a better teacher for my future students. If anyone has any suggestions or insight that may help me to have a better understanding for this culture or any reading materials that you recommend, I would really appreciate it. Thank you and I look forward to talking with everyone.

"Reading Between the Signs: Intercultural Communication for Sign Language Interpreters" by Anna Mindess. NOT just for interpreters.

"A Journey Into the DEAF-WORLD" by Lane, Hoffmeister, and Bahan. Standard Deaf culture text.

Sorry about misspelling yourname Interpretrator, I just caught my error. Also, I will check out both of those books, not just that book. Any other suggestions that anyone has will be appreciated. Thanks.

There's more to learn and understand in more than one chapter. One book that was assigned to me in my second asl class is this book: The Week the World Heard Gallaudet Even though I am hoh, this still applies to me and I am in agreement with the students. I have a hearing dog (pic @ L with Snickers and me) and you won't believe the stuff we go through!
