Do you support uniform policies?

Do you support uniform policies at public school and state school (deaf school)?

I'm against on uniform policies but used to wear uniform at middle school in LA area, from 6th to 8th grade.

I know that few deaf school already adopted uniform policies in Georgia, Louisiana, Alabama, Mississippi and South Carolina but doubt about spread to adopt.

I'm neutral. On the one hand, I can see where it might prevent alot of issues. Alot of gang affliations wear specific clothing to signify their gangs. This could lead to violence, and I think the unforms are a way for the school to prevent that.

But, I also think a teenager should be able to express their individuality, so it's a double edged sword.

As for the younger child, I think it's easier on the parents if they just have one outfit to consider for the child. None of this..'But, Mom, I wanna wear my Hulk shirt today!" And, it takes an hr to get the kid dressed for school....

I was lucky, I graduated right before they implemented the uniform policies we now see in schools across the country.

I don't support uniforms but I support some dress codes. When my youngest sister went to private school, she didn't have to wear an uniform, but they had dress codes: No jeans, nothing made out of jeans material, no logos of any kind. Of course, she hated the school, LOL.

When I was in middle school (in a public school), my school considered implementing uniforms, but thankfully they never actually did it.

I noticed that FSD (Florida) are under discussion about adopt new uniform policies, that what my friend said and uniform policies are common in majority black/latino school in some largest cities, such as NYC (only elementary school), Miami, Dallas, Houston, DC, Birmingham, New Orleans, Philly, some part of Chicago, Cincinnati, Memphis, LA (only some elementary and middle school), Detroit and other few cities.

I have some friend that who complain about uniform policies at deaf school then asked them to attend mainstream school with interpreter, that better than no school for them. For black families that who from inner city school and not support uniform policies then they would move to suburb area for better school system with integrated races, such as mixed with white, latino, asian and other races, and such as San Bernardino County School and some other school system.

I personally DO support the uniform policy. Researchers already shows several positive about mandatory uniform, more than just dress code. Reason behind this is to reduce bullies and it has proven already.

Not always, I'm recommended for you to visit black school in Memphis area or Southside Chicago then you would find out that uniform policies aren't successful but it used successful for short time due early 90's then students are make to getting more worse.

Most school in Oakland are abandoned their uniform policies and replace into basic dress code since result for both of them are nothing to make successful. I feel that not fair for me to wear uniform when I was in middle school (1999-2002) and now, I was visited middle school and they are abandoned their uniform because it make students look bad and alot of them are complain about uniform then they decided to abandoned their uniform policies and replace into basic dress code.

Personally I favor dress codes instead of uniforms. I'd hate to see everyone look all the same. I'd freak out!

Uniforms do make it easier to get dressed in the morning...Ten years of Catholic school has accustomed me to uniforms, so I'm not pro- or anti- uniforms.

Kids will always find a way to get around dress codes, anyway!
