If you remember a while back that I went to Allentown for the college evaulation ... Well I went to see my VR counselor today and I was not on AllDeaf for most of the day. My VR counselor and I went over the college evaulation together with the doctor who did the college evaulation on a phone conference with an ASL interpreter and I was very surprised I passed the college evaulation I went yes that is good news !!!!! and then they recommended that I go to NTID and not go to Gallaudet University. There are going to be many, many things I have to do before I can go to NTID, like going to tutoring school first and now that I have something definitive and a real goal in front of me that now I can go on to achieve my goals for work and college. I am not sure what I want to study but I may work with computers for a job when I graduate from college. I have to sit down and do some serious thinking on the classes that I need to take in college for a real world job. Right now I am just very real happy. This is really it and I can't believe it. I am still alittle in shock and very real happy.

I don't understand why VR counselor and other evaluators recommend you to enroll at NTID instead of any university, technology institute especially RIT and Gallaudet University. Maybe they like to test you again so that you can pass these baby (low level) courses at NTID. You will probably waste your time at another regular higher education after getting the “special” degree at NTID.
You will probably have to finish the college in five or six years to get B.S. degree. I strongly suggest you to speak your VR counselor again. I have seen too many VR counselors recommending any applicant to take courses at any community college, NTID, special education program. They waste federal/state fund for extension educations and VR clients’ valuable time. A decade ago, Gallaudet Universtiy phrased out its own NWC, NorthWest Campus, as a speical education program just like NTID. |
