Do you like British Literature?

Literature classes can be challenging sometimes. I wish I took British Literature before.

The brits do have a good literary tradition. I love the likes of Edmund Spenser, Alexander Pope and Sir Arthur Conan Doyle! Dante Gabriel Rosetti isn't bad either.

I LOVE British Literature!! I am especially into Romantic Period and Victorian Age. Authors I admire the most are Thomas Hardy (he wrote Tess of the d'Ubervilles), D.H. Lawrence ( he wrote many brilliant books such as Lady Chatterley's Lover), and Jane Austen. I could go on but I know I ll put you all to sleep LOL

British Literature is very enriching and stimulating - so I dont know why you hate your British Lit class!

That excerpt from the Canterbury Tales has some good lessons for us men.

Didnt he write Brideshead Revisted? I recall a series on his book - Jeremy Irons, I believe. Vaguely remember storyline.

Im a diehard romantic so that is why I go for Lawrence, Austen and Hardy - Hardy is not your classic romantic writer but Tess of d'Ubervilles is a haunting love story though. I have re-read all of Austens's books and movies based on her novels over and over and over

There are many wonderful British poets too such as Tennyson, Yeats, Wordsworth, Browning, etc.

Dont forget C.S Lewis, Verne, Woolf, etc. So many to list yet so little time!

On a similiar note, I was driving by a doggie daycare last Sunday. It is called "Virginia Woof". I doubled over in laughter. What a great word play!!!!

I loved Hardy's Return of the Native. I read it my freshman year of high school, so that was quite a bit ago!

You're absolutely right. Waugh wrote Brideshead Revisited, but I've only read excerpts. It has, however, made for an interesting read! By the way, I'm curious, did you study Literature in college or something?

I'm fine with it but I haven't read alot of it. I really enjoyed Charles Dickens especially "A Tale of Two Cities", "David Copperfield", and "Great Expectations". There is also Shakespeare "Romeo and Juliet" and "Othello". Who can't forget Sir Conan Doyle's Sherlock Holmes which is one of my favorite series of all time. I'm familiar with Chaucer but the Ole English is very difficult to read. I need to get into C.S. Lewis and his "Chronicles of Narnia".

Oh yeah! I forgot about "The Chronicles of Narnia, which is quite good. And I recall having studied Oliver Twist in school as well Shakespeare. Can't say I'm overly fond of Shakespeare.
