This should go under "Deaf Education." Not here, in General Chat.

What are you looking for to major in? That should matter more than "how many deaf kids?" to determine your choice of college.
Galludent doesn't have a great art program. RID doesn't have a great teaching program. CSUN doesn't have great computer-related majors. Galludent got plently of teaching-related majors. RID got plenty of computer-related majors. CSUN got... everything else.
Or you can go to a local university or somewhere that doesn't have 50+ deaf on-campus but rather 2,000 deaf in the city alone to satisfy your Deaf needs.

It depends on what you want to study. I prefer RIT/NTID.

Actually gnarlydorkette.....I disagree. Some kids can do the solotaire thing (only dhh kid at their school) but most colleges don't have good accomondations for dhh kids in general, so you almost need a population of dhh students to have a good working program.
Also social issues are very very important....it's not fun always being on the computer. School is ALSO about socializing.....

One can socialize outside of an academy if there is a good deaf community in the city where the universtiy is at, hence the reason I said "somewhere that doesn't have 50+ deaf on-campus but rather 2,000 deaf in the city alone to satisfy your Deaf needs."

I am not sure how secure fei-ku is with her Deaf identity. I know I am, enough to go to a large university with only a handful of deaf students out of thirty thousands students and I haven't missed out my deaf events/hangouts. I only merely listed that as an option because I don't know if people are aware that it is OK to go to so-called "hearing" universities where there are excellent services to provide accommodations for Deaf students.

Fei-ku> Ohlone College is another good choice for the list of "deaf" universities. Ohlone is often considered as the Gally of the West. It is REALLY close to CSD-Fremont and close to San Jose.

EDITED:
ASU (Arizona State Univ) has a good number of Deaf students coming in every year.

Again, Ohlone College is still in your favor since it is in California and is a college as you like...

Do you mean "community colleges"?

It depends where u live and which H.S. u graduated
from. If u graduated from deaf school, it better goes to Gallaudet University or if u graduated from mainstreamed school then u can go to anywhere colleges, NTID or RIT. I only know at Foothill De Anza Community College District do have that foreign language as u request lookin for that specific culture. Ohlone C. is jr. college.

I had no problem being accepted in a community college after being graduated in a deaf high school. A good local community college have some good programs, they're more likely to accept people in for education and general studies. They do have good deaf programs that have interpreting and basic services that are needed. Gallaudet or NTID is considered a university, that's why Fei-Ku doesn't want to join. She only wants to go in for basic studies with good deaf services, nothing more serious just yet.

huh? The diffy between a college and a university is that a university is made up of MANY colleges, and a grad school. Doesn't have anything to do with acheivement levels or whatever. A jr college or a community college, however is easier academicly. Undy now?

yeah, i know i forgot about some of my friends graduated from mainstreamed school, too and they did just like u do go to gally.

And even, some of deaf students graduated from residental school and they did go to community college but it wont be that easy for them to catch up what interpreter said at the college becuz they are not used to read with interpreter's sign asl much faster than teacher's sign more accurately lang.at deaf school are not the same things that's what I think. lol

If heading to Texas, what about SCWID? My friend goes down there for college. I can't remember, somewhere in Texas by Lubbock, I think.

How about attending to Rhode Island School of Design? If this is what you are interested in art, here is the link: http://www.risd.edu

I'm trying to understand what you want. You said you don't want a university, when universities are generally much better than "community colleges."

You want "some deaf students" there... just about every single college and university has some deaf students attending there. Getting interpreters and real time captioning and notetaking is possible almost EVERYWHERE nowadays. What's important is that you go to college where WHAT YOU WANT TO LEARN is important.

Now, you said you want to learn... Art, hmm... or Japanese.... errr..... I'm not going to be much help. I'd suggest CSUN in California because that's "some deaf students" and I know at least one deaf person who has an art degree from there who is currently working in the movie industry and has designed the CGI backgrounds for movies like "Sky Captain and the World of Tomorrow" and "Fantastic Four."
