Everything you wanted to know about CSUN, and then some
I've seen a lot of rah-rah about Gallaudet and RIT here on the boards. Since the majority of the U.S. population is in the east (and it makes sense that the deaf population is as well), I thought I'd shed a little more light about the 3rd largest deaf college population in the U.S.
Http://www.csun.edu ![]() Supported by the National Center on Deafness (http://ncod.csun.edu), California State University, Northridge is home to 30,000 hearing and 250 deaf and hard of hearing undergraduate and graduate students. ![]() Just inside the northern border of Los Angeles County, in the infamous San Fernando Valley, Northridge boasts the epitome of Southern California weather. Just miles away from surf, sand, shopping and, well, just about anything, in the heart of the Los Angeles suburbs, sits a large campus that saw plenty of undergraduates grow up to become famous and infamous alumni. Check out the famous Entertainment alumni! Consisting of 9 colleges, 60 BA degrees, 41 master's degrees, and 28 credential programs (source: CSUN Academic Programs), CSUN offers unique opportunities for deaf and hearing alike. It has one of the best deaf studies programs in world, in my opinion. Deaf and hearing alike enjoy classes that best prepare them for the workforce in business, science, art, education, and humanities. ![]() Now, if you have any more questions, I'll be happy to answer them. I am a recent baccalaureate graduate but I hope to someday return after a few years of success in the economy to acquire my MBA. |

http://www.csun.edu/~hfanr055/reg/ftfadmr2.html SAT or ACT, either one is fine. Bonus points for good GPA and honors courses. What will REALLY help you stand out from all other people trying to get in is a good APPLICATION ESSAY. More information about applying to CSUN: http://www.csun.edu/anr/#underg You can apply ONLINE to enter CSUN! http://www.csumentor.edu/AdmissionApp/ http://www.csumentor.edu/admissionap...grad_apply.asp For what it's worth, I got in on good SAT's, high school GPA above 3.0, sign language as my foreign language (non-native ASL user here) and a nice entrance admissions application (essay).

Holy heck, is that you, Julie G? How was the Peace Corps?
No -- Erika Leger did it for a bit, then I think they hired someone who I understand graduated from UCLA. In any case, I'm no longer anywhere near California and haven't kept up to date on the latest staff developments. How are you? |

Hey there, yeah it's me. Peace Corps was good. Just back about a month ago and quickly learning what's new in technology/internet.
In another post, I expressed surprise that you were married. But after I thought about it, duh! How could I have forgotten? I remember meeting her. Anyway, how's life? So you're not near CSUN? What's going on with you? I'm in Chicago taking it easy until Jesse and I move out to DC so I can go to graduate school at Gallaudet for Linguistics. Funny, from one coast to another. |
