A new land survey reveals the true border of North and South Carolina
Some people discover they're in a new state

Get ready to update your GPS maps ... the border between North and South Carolina may not be where you think it is, as 93 property owners discovered, according to Myrtle Beach online.
The state line between the Carolinas hasn’t been surveyed in more than 230 years and a committee is trying to decide where South Carolina ends and North Carolina begins.
The border was first drawn in the 1700s, according to WXII. A recent survey using modern methods found the old border was off by several hundred feet in some areas. GPS systems are drawing the new line and the technology can narrow the border down to the centimeter. Cartography has come a long way since Lewis and Clark.
The property owners affected mostly are near Charlotte, North Carolina. An owner of a Lake Wylie, South Carolina, store told WXII he may have to close because under the new map he’s in North Carolina, where gas is $.30 more and he cannot sell fireworks.
The Joint Boundary Commission will meet today and listen to residents affected by the new survey, according to Myrtle Beach online.
