Elderly Targeted By Women Dressed As Nurses
Elderly Targeted By Women Dressed As Nurses - Sacramento News Story - KCRA Sacramento

LODI, Calif. -- Two women are behind bars after police say they targeted the elderly, stealing cash and credit cards while dressed as nurses.

Elizabeth Edwards-Hicks, 82, said she keeps three locks on her door, and rarely opens the door of her Galt mobile home for anyone. But Edwards-Hicks said she was fooled when two women dressed in nursing scrubs showed up at her home recently.

"They were distracting me. They were well schooled in what they did," said Edwards-Hicks.

One woman wearing scrubs and holding a baby spoke with Edwards-Hicks, while a second woman, also in scrubs, went inside to use the restroom. After they left, Edwards-Hicks said she found her purse half open and her wallet gone.

Lodi police began working with Galt police after they responded to a similar situation, also at a mobile home.

This time an elderly man was the victim. He told police the women said they were nurses checking on him. Investigators said he told them his credit cards were stolen.

"Within minutes a card was being used at JC Penney. So, police drove over there and apprehended the two suspects," said Dale Eubanks with the Lodi Police Department.

Christina Amaya, 29, and Elizabeth Marks, 48, were arrested and charged with elderly abuse and burglary, according to Lodi police. Both were booked at the Lodi City Jail.

Lodi police have confirmed one of the women is an employee in a training program at Sutter General Hospital. Neither of the victims have made recent trips to the hospital.

Investigators said other women may be involved in the scam.
