"According to the New York Times, Apple employs 43,000 people in the United States. That’s not an inconsiderable number of people. However, Apple no longer builds its own devices. There was a time when Apple computers were actually manufactured in the United States. Today, Apple products are built in China. Foxconn City has 230,000 people working to make iPhones and iPads — and Presidential candidate Rick Santorum claims more than 500,000 people build Apple products in China."

Apple: made in China, untaxed profits kept offshore | ZDNet

It makes me wonder, how many of us deaf citizens are unemployed or underemployed because Apple does not make any of their devices in the U.S. of A. I know they have great products (designed in the U.S. of A.!), but how much of this is just the bean counters (MBA's) going for profits first and social responsibility second, if not last.

Apparently, you missed the news report of Steve Jobs and Obama having a 45 minute sit-down talk where Steve explain to Obama that regulations made it impossible to build manufacturing plants in America. Obama is doing nothing to foster a better business condition for the American people, he is anti-jobs (i.e. Keystone Pipeline).

You can do your part by only buying 100% American products. Which would mean you won't be going to Wal Mart nor the Apple Store.

and why is it that Steve Jobs was still unable to build manufacturing plants in America under Bush Administration?

Yes, many of the components are still relied on from other countries. Capacitors, dies, chips, etc. The latest fad is SoC's (System on Chip - combo of chips in one, in our smartphones and tablets). If the US starts one now, they have a long way to catch up. That is why apple and others outsource their work overseas - it is cheaper for them to make the profit.

It's just the nature of globalisation really. The far east exploit the advantage they have in cheap labour and as a result a lot of developed countries have experienced de-industrialisation, UK included.

Americans brought products that made in China.. It's only less 3%. The highest percent we actual brought products made in America is about 88%.

Yeah. It's sad that some other countries don't have and/or enforce minimum wage.

True, but then you could argue that a minimum wage creates unemployment as firms are unwilling to hire as many workers due to the increase in the costs of production. They translate into higher prices for consumers...So it's swings and roundabouts really...

I don't believe this. Perhaps, you would have said the products made in America is 3%.

We voted Congress people, and they still do not care about American people or U.S. factories for years. Every U.S. President have visited in our U.S. factories, and they are still doing the same thing - not even a bit better for us.
Ron Paul is the only man that would try to help us to get back to normal. I don't care if he is Republic or Democrat because he is honest man.

I'm soooo sorry that you DO NOT believe me. Well, here is source... :D
Sticker shock: 'Made in China' ranks only 2.7% of U.S. spending - Los Angeles Times

Actually, Apple moved their operations overseas during Clinton's second term.

Is this Change you can believe in? I believe its all BULL SHIT Voters bought! Its nothing but BULL SHIT on Obamas campaign promises. He did promise to create jobs and keep Jobs in America. G.E Went to China and now Apple went to China. The question the Republicans should ask the Voters? ARE YOU WORSE OFF NOW, THEN YOU WERE 4 YEARS AGO? When Bush left office unemployment was at 7.3 now its over 9. Gas was under $2 a gallon its now over $3 a gallon. Food Prices have soared under Obamas watch. Clothing is more expensive then Bush was President. More people lost their homes under Obamas watch. Hes not making things better hes making things worse!

Actually, Apple moved over to China long before Obama became the President of the USA. Anyway, President Obama is not directly responsible for the economy as it is today. Many politicians from the past terms are mostly responsible for what happened. They changed the regulations and allowed more freedom among the capitalists. All of these actions led to the meltdown of the economy.

Hes making things worse. Look at the Stats,, Things were bad under George Bush. But its gone from Bad to worse. We elected Obama to fix it. He has done crap!

Do you realize that the economy now is due to the actions of the past administrations? President Obama took office at the time of the economical meltdown. A problem like this cannot be fixed overnight. With a country of 300 million Americans, you would be hard-pressed to find an one-size-fit-all solution that would succeed in such a short period of time.

It will takes a good amount of time for the current administration's actions to show some signs of changes in the country.

Look how Ronald Reagan turned America around after those dog days of Jimmy Carter. Look how FDR got us out of the great depression after that lame duck Hoover. If i was president heres what i do

1. Change wall street rules,,,
If anyone commits insider trading will get 35 years in federal prison without parole. And you dont go in club fed nether. You go in the supermax.

2. Eliminate all federal gas taxes,,Create toll boths as you enter State lines. It will cost you $3 to cross a state line. The money will go towards new roads and bridges and highway construction cost.

3. Abolish the EPA. We need oil drilling and pipelines inside of America. That would allow us to get our own oil without getting from Arab nations.

4. Fire federal judges who are not doing their jobs right.

5. Stop trading with China and Japan

6.Cut taxes those making under $100,000. Those are Earning $100,000-$250,000 your taxes wont go up they wont go down nether. If youre earning more than $250,000 you pay 60%

7.Create a forgien Sales tax. If you buy anything that not made in the U.S.A you pay 3% extra forgien Sales tax. Which includes from Clothing,Light Bulbs TVs,Cars and Toys n Games.

8.Create a new Border patrol,,Its now called The national border guard. Those are trained military men from Iraq afgainstan. Any illegal comes over the guard fires a warning shot. If you dont listen to the command theyre ordered to shoot to kill. Just like how China and the North Koreans handle their borders.

9.Try to get Congress and Senate to make a new amendent for Churches to pay taxes just like europeans tax their churches. This will give I.R.S agents to work on sundays. They will be assigned to churches all over the US. When services are over they take 30% from the collection plate just like how I.R.S agents take your money when you win stuff on Game Shows.

10.Get rid of the T.S.A and let State police keep airports safe. For example in Los Angeles international the C.H.P checks baggage and detectors. Instead of the way the T.S.A does things.

Lets see how this economy improves.

Look how Ronald Reagan turned America around after those dog days of Jimmy Carter.

Actually, it's believed that Ronald Reagan's actions contributed to the demise of the American economy. Same with Richard Nixon's actions too as well. Just look up on what Nixon did with the gold standard. Much good it did for the world.

Bill Clinton's administration brought in surplus for the first time in decades, however the dot com bubble burst by the time he left office. They allowed it to expand at such a rapid rate that it all fell apart at once. Only a few survived, for instance, Yahoo, Priceline and more. But again, they did not know what the internet was capable of since it was still relatively new to the public in these days.

Now, regarding Jimmy Carter. Like Obama, he inherited a mess. The oil prices and inflation were already out of control by the time he took office. Not really his fault since the anti-inflation policies were forced upon his administration.

You're blaming all the wrong people for the problems America is facing these days.
