LEBANON, TN (WSMV) -
The man behind a restaurant that can be found off almost any interstate exit in the south has died at age 76.

According to the Cracker Barrel website, Co-Founder Dan "Danny" Evins passed away Saturday in Lebanon.

Danny was working at Shell Oil in 1969, when he decided to open up the very first Cracker Barrel off Highway 109 in his home town of Lebanon.

Cracker Barrel currently operates more than 600 stores in 42 states.

The company's president and CEO said Cracker Barrel has remained true to Evins' vision of providing products at a fair price with genuine southern hospitality.
