I've been following this and I'm not sure the sentence will be that high, but he will still be extradited to the U.S after his release for the fraud charge.

So, he got 28 years and a fine of $74,000.

I really don't see how he could be sent to America to face charges in the Holloway case because three crime did not happen on American soil and he is not American.
I also don't know how secure he would be in a Peru prison but many possible things could happen if he serves the entire 28 years.

"Federal officials are moving forward with an extradition for extortion charges Joran van der Sloot faces in Alabama.

A spokesperson for the U.S. Attorney's Office in Birmingham said they're ready to try him and are looking into when Joran van der Sloot could be brought to Alabama.

He was charged in 2010 with attempting to extort money from Holloway's mom.

Van der Sloot will be charged Friday in Peru. He faces up to 30 years in prison.

The question the U.S. Attorney's Office is reviewing: Does it have to wait for van der Sloot to serve out his sentence before he's brought to Alabama, or can he be extradited before then."

Wow, that seems pretty minimal compared to others I've read about on the news. I thought we pretty much get life or death for a known first or second degree murder.

Wonder if this is because he's not an American citizen, because he confessed to reduce his sentence?
Peru is pretty lenient on the sentencing (imo).
