Library Sends Police to Collect Overdue Books from 5-Year-Old

Looks like a pretty drastic measurement here. Why send police? Why not turn to collection agency instead of sending police?

Just think that a 5 year old may not return library book may be the same 16 year old that won't return a car that was loaned.

Yes, I agree that this was crazy to send police. I wouldn't advocate it. Like I said, there is different ways to deal with it. Yes, the girl was deliquent, but still.....

I know that the girl is only 5 years old. It's parent's responsiblity to teach being a good citizen.

I've noticed that more people in local government get quite obsessive about cracking down on the 'malcontents' lately. And sometimes go waaay overboard with it, just like this. Downright silly I think!

That's one way to expose them to alternative sources such as Kindle.

I do believe there have been some people here in Duval County who were actually jailed for not paying Library fines....

Using cops for this is ridiculous! Unless they had many, many, many way overdue books. There are still yet better ways to get their attention. Incorporate the fees into their taxes like personal property or real estate! Hitting the pocketbook usually works well!

Hope they won't give anyone the gas chamber over this one.

Scare em while they're young. Turn em into good widdle cogs for the machine.
