Toronto transit bus crash kills 1, injures 13 -  News - MSN CA

One person is dead following a crash involving a Toronto Transit Commission bus and a flatbed truck on one of the city's busiest streets.

A 43-year-old woman who was a passenger on the bus was killed and at least 13 passengers were injured.

Nine people were taken to hospital after the collision, said Const. Hugh Smith.

Investigators believe the bus collided with the back of the truck while trying to make a lane change, Smith said.

A TTC spokesman could not say how many people were on the bus, but said he believed none of those hurt had life-threatening injuries.

"We deeply regret the loss of life in this incident, and our concerns are with all the other customers that were on board the vehicle," Mike DeToma said.

The crash happened on Lawrence Avenue East and Railside Drive, near the Don Valley Parkway, just after 2:30 p.m.

The bus and a flatbed truck collided, causing severe damage to both vehicles.

Pictures from the scene showed the front end of the TTC bus almost sheared off by the impact.

Lawrence Avenue eastbound remained closed throughout the busy afternoon rush hour while police investigated.
