Keji Park swimming accident victim ID'd - Nova Scotia - CBC News
that is sad
The man who died in a swimming mishap in Kejimkujik National Park Sunday has been identified as Richard Scott Taylor.
Taylor, 41, was a resident of Portuguese Cove, in the Halifax region. He had been camping with his family in the park.
His body was recovered at Mill Falls on the Mersey River Monday morning by RCMP divers.
The RCMP said it appeared that Taylor was caught in a strong current in the Mersey River that pulled him under the water. He failed to surface again.
Mill Falls is one of three non-supervised swimming areas in the park, with no lifeguards on duty.
The area is usually safe for swimming, police said, but heavy rains this summer have made currents strong.
This is the first time on record that anyone has drowned at Mill Falls, Parks Canada officials said.
Parks Canada reviews all incidents such as this, to decide what kind of measures, if any should be updated.
Access is closed to Mill Falls and will remain so for several days out of respect for the family.
