Charges Against 12-Year-Old Under Review

ORANGE PARK, Fla. -- Investigators returned to an Orange Park farm Wednesday to collect more evidence in the case of a 12-year-old boy accused of abusing a half-dozen animals.

Five of the animals died from their injuries or had to be euthanized, Clay County deputies said.

Investigators took pictures and measurements and reviewed evidence when they returned to the farm.

They said it's possible the boy could be charged as an adult.

The boy is accused of severing two horses legs, causing their deaths, attacking three goats, causing one's death, and decapitating two chickens in two separate attacks at the stables at 320 Tanglewood Blvd. last month. Investigators said the boy stabbed another horse and broke the legs of the other two goats, all of which survived.

Deputies described the crime as one of the most heinous animal cruelty cases they've ever seen in Clay County.

State attorney investigators met with the animals' owner Wednesday morning.

The boy cannot be charged as an adult in the animal cruelty counts, but he is also charged with armed burglary with a weapon, which is a charge that's under review.

According to police reports, the horses' legs were broken, and one of their legs was hanging together by a piece of skin.

There were mixed opinions on whether the 12-year-old should face adult charges.

"I think they need to dig into it a little bit deeper and see what kind of mental stage he's at before they do try him as an adult," neighbor Amanda Schroeder.

Others said the boy should be tried as an adult because the crime was so heinous.

Investigators said the boy used a butcher knife, golf clubs and metal pipes to bludgeon, slash and stab the farm animals.

Investigators said the boy was angry about something, though they don't know what, and they said he took out his anger on the animals.

That is tragic... animals didn't deserve that abuse. But what's the hell is wrong with the boy?

Get this child to a locked ward ASAP. He is seriously disturbed. They need to more concerned about his mental status than about whether to charge him as an adult.

My ex brother use to take a frog and put it a pail of water the get a of blood suckers and put them in with the frog! It was horrible , I would take the poor frog out . He would also kill all the baby sharks when fishing on our dad's yacht.
My ex brother would take a hook and rip the poor sharks open , I would be freaking out .He is a sick mother f*****! His daughter had 2 boys and the mother was at a friend house once and my niece when to see what her sons where doing, the oldest one was killing a cat with bat!! I really think there some kind hereditary of cruelty in my dad's family, a lot of men are abusers.
My niece's son was only around 5 years old when he was trying to kill the poor cat, the poor cat was vomiting by the time the mothers found the little monsters! I wanted to report the kid for animal cruelty!

How does one have an ex brother? Unless you mean ex brother in law?

Also, there is a clear link between animal abuse and violent offenders.

The ASPCA find a lot of people who had previous warrants for a violent offense. (And most likely, WILL have warrants in the future!)

If you knew my brother you would feel the same way! He raped my oldest sister, robbed my 93 old bedridden mother of over $ 100, 000 and me of $20,000. The whole family has disowned him, his 2 daughters want nothing to with him. My mother was once taking to a woman he worked with on the phones and said something his twin daughters, the women worked with him for 5 years and did not know he had kids! My ex brother was angry at mom for telling someone he had twin girls!! I could go on but I do not want to bore you any more!

Yes, there is. There is also a link between animal abuse and command hallucinations in the psychotic disorders. The ones who are responding to command hallucinations will generally exhibit remorse.

No he not in jail, I tried to get a lawyer my sister hired to charge him for elder abuse but the damn lawyer did no know how to do it! My sister hired some wimpy lawyer!

People who violently abuse animals are always likely to abuse other people so yeah...even thou he may be only 12 years old but he is old enough to know better so I can't blame them for trying him as an adult.

The state has to file those charges. The only attorney that can do it is the Prosecutor.

So...when you were 12 you understood everything in the same way that an adult does? Your understanding hasn't changed since you were 12 years old?

If a 12 year old can think, reason, and take responsibility like an adult, why isn't 12 the age of majority instead of 21?

cmon...12 year olds know better than 5 years or younger besides hes a pre-teen. If he doesnt like getting hurt then he should understand that people especially animals dont like getting hurt either.
