Newspapers' circulations down - graph

Not surprising at all. People are becoming much more technology oriented.

Royale, interesting. Yeah, the Obama over-saturation effect. But this decline has been going on a long time before Obama. Even their own annointed one can't save them.

I bet most of the newspaper's circulation is slanted for being used for rodents and reptiles... since it's common to use old newspaper as beddings for those two type of animals.

More common to recycle. Which is another reason that the tech savy get their news online.

and that is based on..... what? declining # of newspaper subscriptions? You do know that USPS business is also declining and bleeding money, right?

simple explanation - internet.

Newspaper Circulation Continues to Decline
The decline continued a 20-year trend in the newspaper industry as people increasingly turn to other media such as the Internet and 24-hour cable news networks for information.

you continue to amuse me with your nay-saying spinning. keep it up! I need my daily laugh. it keeps my heart strong.

Yep. When I used to keep animals, I would grab any newspaper I could find, usually free ones, in bulk so I could use them as beddings. Only way you can go cheaper is bulk cedar mulch (not recommended due to toxic phenol) or cleaner-- butcher paper (not easy to get ahold of)

Pretty common among pet-owners.

I use newspapers as temporary rug for my motorcycle cuz the fluid can ruin the concrete.

One of the many problems is that the majority of newspapers are now owned by corporations rather than individuals or small companies within the communities newspapers are published in.

As a result of this, they are focusing less and less on local stories and events and focusing more on the national and international stories. Therefore, less people are interested in subscribing because they are lacking in local coverage.

Agreed, Banjo. Who's going to buy a local newspaper full of Associated Press stories when you can read them on-line for free? That is, with some ads.

Newspapers are moving online. My local paper is on-line and I read it daily. It's a sad fact that my huge city has only one newspaper.

Exactly. :-/

Community newspaper is a dying breed. Nearly extinct, actually.

Even the obits are on-line now. The paper prints a link to the dearly departed's web site. It's nice to be able to leave condolences and fond memories.

It's sad in a way. Newspapers were very good at hiring deafies, especially in Washington, D.C. So much "overtime"....good salaries....linotype and teletype operators were in demand, and most hearies would not work in "press rooms" due to the loud noises.

We still got phone solictors wanting us to subscribe, but I haven't read a newspaper in years!

As the internet has been in the picture for years to come; One of the goal is to go paperless which could be great but, should everything be relied to be fed on the internet when it does crashes? I am certain that there will always be ways to bring it back up.

I rarely read newspapers now these days but, in a way I think newspapers should be able to go on since it gives a nice look to it when one would want to cut out a paper/article to keep in their scrapbook or whatever it is. I could care less about that but when I would want to keep an article, I simply could print it out from the internet. Still, it isn't the same thing as having the "excitement" of getting it from the newspaper itself.

Yep, It's Green time.

It's not necessarily "green" but it's certainly a more efficient way of transmitting information and news.
