ONE YEAR ANNIVERSARY
NEWSLETTER
Greetings Friends of The Silent Seed!
I hope this newsletter finds everybody in good health and spirits. True, it's been a winter to remember! Snowy, cold, icy, plenty of shoveling, but remember, it's gorgeous as well. Let us all be thankful that we have this glorious change of seasons, and that without it, we would not appreciate spring's arrival as much! Stay positive - Spring is on her way! For those who cannot wait, plan a mini get-away to The Silent Seed, where it is always spring, warm, and tropical!
I would like to celebrate my one-year anniversary by hosting a super sale! With every purchase you will receive a free plant, of my choosing, which I will select, according to your conditions, so that it will thrive for you.
All purchases over $20.00 will include two free plants.
This sale will begin Wednesday January 28th and continue through Feburary 1.
Since my last newsletter, a friend of The Silent Seed has offered me this hot tip. Poinsettias, contrary to popular belief, are not, in fact, toxic. Poinsettias are in the genus Euphorbia, and all except a very few species are highly toxic, so this came as a surprise. Thanks for teaching us something new! Keep in mind, however, that this plant still can cause health complications, so please don't take this as a suggestion that it's okay to chew on some Poinsettia leaves! It just means it won't kill your cat or child!
For those of you who don't know me, my name is Jude Platteborze. I opened The Silent Seed exactly one year ago, on January 26, 2008, an exotic plant store, in Magnolia, a village of Southern Gloucester. I welcome all of you to visit, or e-mail me anytime!
I hope to help you discover the joy, beauty, peace, and healing that plants, inside and out, offer. Plants really do make a huge difference in our living spaces and surroundings. I have a unique, extensive collection of rare and exotic plants for both the inside and out. As always, special orders are welcome in the event that the plant does not yet live at The Silent Seed!
WHAT'S BLOOMING
One of my favorite plants, the Clivia, a South African lily relative, is a traditional winter bloomer, and two are blooming already! They are truly gorgeous, and available for sale.
The Crown of Thorns, an unique succulent, is another plant that is blooming here at The Silent Seed, with gorgeous deep pink, red flowers.
The Coleus, a popular annual, are flowering now - gorgeous lavender colors!
My Yellow Jasmines are truly stunning, and have beautiful bright canary yellow blooms at this time.
My Winter Jasmine has also started budding on the edges of its vines. This is one of the most fragrant Jasmines with dainty white flowers.
Of course we cannot forget the Christmas Cacti! Some are still budded, and ready to bloom for you!
Some of my Orchids have begun their annual flowering process, and will be truly unique this year.
My Walking Irises (a truly unique tropical plant) has started their new season of blooming, and will be gorgeous - with their tri-colored flowers!
Bromeliads are very slow growing, and require a huge amount of patience, however one of last year's babies has begun the color change process, and it will be fascinating. Come enjoy!
I am excited to inform you that I have accepted the request of a local photographer to display some of his work here at The Silent Seed. He uses a unique approach of photographing flowers in complete darkness, with a flashlight. He turns these photographs into cards, which are black and white, and are absolutely amazing! They are available for sale. Check them out when you come to visit the plants! They would be excellent additions to a plant gift.
THE NURSERY
The nursery is pretty quiet, still, but I have been gathering approximately three hundred types of unique seeds of all types. Keep checking for these sprouts! There are still many Clivias popping their first leaves out of the soil, though!
WHAT'S BUDDING
This past week I was filmed by people from Northeastern University to help create a training DVD for sign interpreting students. I was quite excited to be able to be part of this project.
I have added 2 dozen shelves, and an additional 200 square feet of plants ready for your viewing pleasure and purchase!
The Silent Seed has acquired some extremely large, attractive Pencil Cactus trees. They are fairly rare, and usually seen only in smaller sizes. They grow slowly, however mine are up to 7 feet in height, and are perfect for a show-stopping conversation piece. This plant is *not* animal friendly, being quite toxic.
News Flash! I have propagated these trees, and now have many small "kids" available for sale for those of you who are short on space.
I have acquired a very old, large Sansevieria cylindrica. It is a species of Snake Plant, however the leaves are tubular, ending in a point (not sharp.) This is an extraordinary plant that is rarely seen outside it's native Africa. I have divisions available now.
THINKING GREEN
The Silent Seed is an all-natural, green business. I believe in a non-invasive, non-chemical approach to growing plants. I use absolutely no chemicals, fertilizers, or sprays of any sort. What they do receive is plenty of water, care, and love. You will see that they flourish and thrive with this approach.
SPECIAL ORDERS
Special orders are always welcome, and encouraged, in the event that the particular plant you desire does not yet reside at The Silent Seed. A deposit is required. Please feel free to bring to The Silent Seed any plastic pots, trays, pans, that you might otherwise throw away. Let's help our environment by re-using them! I offer special discounts for this, too! I want to remind you that shipping is available. I am an experienced shipper, and send out anywhere between 5 and 20 plants each week, so please don't be shy.
The Silent Seed, where there is a plant for everybody!
Thank you very much for reading this newsletter. I hope you enjoyed it and I look forward to seeing you soon!
If you wish to be removed from this email list, or if you wish to ask any questions, I am only an e-mail away.
Please tell everybody about The Silent Seed, and feel free to have anybody contact me to be added to my e-mail list.
Best Wishes,
Jude
