White Americans no longer a majority by 2042 - Yahoo! News

White people will no longer make up a majority of Americans by 2042, according to new government projections. That's eight years sooner than previous estimates, made in 2004.

The nation has been growing more diverse for decades, but the process has sped up through immigration and higher birth rates among minority residents, especially Hispanics.

It is also growing older.

"The white population is older and very much centered around the aging baby boomers who are well past their high fertility years," said William Frey, a demographer at the Brookings Institution, a Washington think tank. "The future of America is epitomized by the young people today. They are basically the melting pot we are going to see in the future."

The Census Bureau Thursday released population projections through 2050, based on rates for births, deaths and immigration. They are subject to big revisions, depending on immigration policy, cultural changes and natural or manmade disasters.

The U.S. has nearly 305 million people today. The population is projected to hit 400 million in 2039 and 439 million in 2050.

That's like adding all the people from France and Britain, said Steve A. Camarota, director of research at the Center for Immigration Studies, a Washington group that advocates tighter immigration policies.

White non-Hispanics make up about two-thirds of the population, but only 55 percent of those younger than 5.

By 2050, whites will make up 46 percent of the population and blacks will make up 15 percent, a relatively small increase from today. Hispanics, who make up about 15 percent of the population today, will account for 30 percent in 2050, according to the new projections.

Asians, which make up about 5 percent of the population, are projected to increase to 9 percent by 2050.

The population 85 and older is projected to more than triple by 2050, to 19 million.

They say that minorities are allowed to express themselves cuz they're a minority.

For instance, "Black Power" "Gay Pride" "Deaf & Proud" etc...

Well, when whites become a minority... will we be allowed to say "White Power"?

I still think that racial diversity is getting out of hand anyways.

I know all races, except Whites, are really tired of White race as majority, and now they are very happy when Whites became longer no a majority. So... I, too, wonder will I allow to express if I am a part of minority in the future? I'm kinda of afraid that some limited things will come up to my life in the future... ...unexpected. I don't like some things will happpen to my race, the Whites, and inculding myself and you, Vampy.
In the note - I'm not try to be meany racist... It's just how I feel about we, Whites, become a minority in the future... with, probably, some limits.

Well, combined of hispanic and non-hispanic whites will continue to be majority in after 2050 for very long time.

This article is likely to be true but we couldn't really get right prediction in 2050.

Hispanics are rapidly growing, mostly from immigrant and offspring.

It has nothing with congratulation, races aren't all matters, also it has nothing with races who are tired of others to be majority, majority is just shows that's larger than 50% like Japan is very majority Japanese, just for example, same goes to South Korea that's very majority Koreans.

Almost all part of Europe are majority whites for very long time, even forever.

Let's say... who knows in next 20 years whites happen to get more hornier getting more babies like they did back in '50s (baby boom).

It's only an assumption based on the present stats showing more blacks and hispanics populating faster than whites in the USA.

Yup, that's true but growing of percent on black aren't big difference on between 13% today and 15% in 2050 but hispanic is big difference in percent, from 15% today to 30% in 2050.

Blacks could be experience on decline of birth rate in next few decade, same goes to white non-hispanic since 70's.

But Hispanics are not listed as "white". And you are right. The Hispanic population is the fastest growing minority population in the U.S.

Humans are of one species. Dogs are another. Horses are another species. All under the Kingdom: Animalia.

Black Human, White Human, Green Human - all same species. Not the same as a horse and a dog - two different species.
