On Gallaudet Campus Robbery

I got email from someone at DC Metro.

Subject: [ALERT] On Campus Robbery

DATE: 08/02/08
TIME: 11:39

On 08/01/08 at approximately 915pm, four African Amiercan Juvenile
males attempted to rob 2 Gallaudet Students at gunpoint on campus at
the track. Members of our Community are reminded to be cautious
both on and off campus, during the day time as well as at night. Pay
close attention to your surrounding, walk in groups of 3 or more persons
and remain in a well lit area. Avoiding unlit areas (s) and any area
you feel a subjects might hide. Gallaudet is a large campus, but it is
not immune from crime, we are reminded NOT to be complacent.

DPS is assisting MPD with their investigations as well as
conducting a 100% ID checks of ALL persons entering campus. Should anyone have
any information pertaining to this incident, you are encouraged to
contact, MPD's Deaf and Hard of Hearing Liaison Unit at
DHHU2002@yahoo.com or contact DPS @ 202-651-5445 voice,
202-651-5444/6444 TTY or email at dps.office@gallaudet.edu. Dispatch
is monitored 24 hours per day 7 days a week.

Oh wow, that's so scary for Gally students.

I don't think it was bad now but 80's and 90's are more worse for crime issue in surrounding of Gally campus.

Robberies happen on or close to all college campuses.

We need some smarter robbers, though. Robbing a poor college student who usually has very little money on him or her is stupid!

I send e mail and my idea. All we have to use ID who are in Galladuet student are permission in campus on and off. If there no ID they will not allow to enter. Because we want be safety us.

I don't know I will just idea. Some of these University have it.

If someone who family or your friend come to visit. Must tell office when they permission and know for sure.

D.C. also has the highest graduate rate in country in terms of colleges and unviersities. As well as having the highest drop-out rate of high schoolers in the country too.....

Won't solve problem, No allow to enter campus without ID.

I was student at campus. Some people does not like walk for long way from end to end. They looked for cut short way. They can climb over the fence or hole of fence.

that just shows you how awful gallaudets security is.... For a "fence/gated" campus to let 3 dudes come in and rob someone on the track is ridiculous. And oh yeah, they got away. *golf clap*

Most of my friends and I never climb over the fence.

That's our time. Many times, we saw hearing people cross campus from fence to open gate at W Va Ave. They wanted to cut short way. Few times, they threw rocks as fight.

Well, Gallaudet University is right there in the ghetto. I know, I've gone to Gally for a summer college bound program in 1997.

I agreed that Gallaudet campus is surrounded ghetto.

A couple of years ago, I walked with my friends off the campus on the street from the Gally. We saw a black man was happy and sang himself looking thru a woman's purse. We passed him without looking at him. Then, he threw the purse in the trash and walked off. Sight!

That ghetto should be destroyed and re-develop a better environment place. Congressmen are supposed to pay to make the place safe because they work at the capital right there. They are a millionaire or maybe billionaire. Now, they don't care about the ghetto.

im sure gally have serious crimes and need hires security in gally campus anywhere they protect student and also MUST have approves ID very serious important for student and professor also but im sure they i think need police can handle to protect gally what u think?

Thanks to those million black protesters back in late '60s (MLK parade) that some of them ended up settling down in the neighborhoods next to Gally afterward because some of them ended up having no money to return back to their home states. Many years ago it was a nice upscale neighborhood... wish it stayed the same. We heard such stories while at Gally.

I didn't experience any except a little black boy selling drugs just a block away from the Gally front campus gate approaching me and few other friends. Few others were shocked. gee lol Back in the 80s it wasn't that bad but assume it's getting worse nowadays.

Yup, that's so true.

USC is located in South LA, that's closer to bad neighborhood and gang territories but surrounding of USC is okay, crime is just happens in anywhere.

Gally has already did like that for many years, even not all are 100% effective and crime is happen in anywhere, even there would be crime in your area, no matters.

Not all crime could be avoided, period.

Yup but 80's and 90's are worse but it's seems getting improve in some part, more inner city blacks are pushed to move out to suburb, especially in Prince George County (PGC) due gentifrication in some neighborhood of DC in after 80's/90's, PGC was majority whites in prior to 90's but it's majority blacks now.

And with the shape our economy is in, I'd say we will be looking at a higher incidence of this type of crime for a while yet.

Well, the crime in PGC is quietly bad in some part but not much difference in between 90's and 2000's, change in demographic isn't always bad, just depends on situation, PGC is better than in Baltimore and Detroit.

Agreed. Some cities are better off employment wise than others. Also, it depends on the population make-up.
