Missing?

Ever see those posters or signs of missing kids (especially at Wal-Mart stores)?

What would you do if you actually saw a missing kid? Seriously, what would you do?

Anyone would immediately say that they would report it, but would they... when the time actually comes?

I came across this article... pretty shocking.

Majority Of People In 'Missing Child' Experiment Don't Notice, Help Girl - Problem Solvers News Story - WKMG Orlando

This reminds me of an episode of Who Wants To Be A Superhero? that I saw a couple years back.

In this episode, Stan Lee gave all of his contestants pagers. He told them that if they were called, the should immediately and privately change into their superhero costume and race towards the end (following a specific route to the finish line).

Most of the contestants ran as fast as they could towards the end. What they did not even notice was a little girl crying (for her mom) near the finish line. A couple contestants actually stopped to help her and went to look for help before continuing their race.

Stan Lee expressed his severe disappointment in those who didn't even stop. Some of the contestants admitted that they saw a little girl crying, but ignored her because they felt that winning this contest was more important.

That goes to show that people easily place other things first before what's really important.

But... how would you feel if you knew that people recognized your daughter as someone who was missing and didn't do anything about it?

I would approach her and ask her directly for her name. I would give her my name and tell her that I'm a grown up and that I think she looks like a girl who is missing from her parents. I would get on my Sidekick and immediately call 911. Meanwhile I would keep talking to her to get more information. This girl will NOT leave my sight until the police and/or social worker arrive. I don't care if people claims to be her parents, etc. They will not take her until the police can confirm.

I rather be wrong and look foolish...then be right and not have done anything to save this child. I have to sleep at night eventually.
