Economic woes hit American stomachs

Economic woes hit American stomachs - CNN.com

Wow, we're paying more to feed ourselves. Many people have to cut back on restaurants and use cheap brand than major brands. Organic foods are more expensive these days.

People's budget are getting thinner now than before

Not for those who lives in Apt, or in city area where they don't have any room in yard to plant. On the other hand, people are too busy to take care of the garden. If in country area, they could do that, but it's not for everyone to plant own foods.

Sure, You can plant your own food but it is not always simple at this aspect because there are various people living in the city (or living in an apartment or a small space) where they cannot plant their own food. How would they be able to plant it? There's always a produce store but however, it still costs money to pay it up.

It'd be understandable of these people who are able to plant their food on a land or out in the country. Not everyone is planting their foods now these days.

I agree that the food prices are going up too fast.

I remember years ago when I could go to McDonalds and get the Big Mac Meal for $3. Now, it's over $5... soon $6. With the gas prices going up, food prices going up, and everything else going up so fast... we could be looking at another Great Depression soon! Yikes!

Just a good pot, soil and seeds can do wonders for those that live in apartments or in areas where they don't have any room in their yards.

That may be true, but would a small pot of soil and seeds could just be enough to feed those who lives in these conditions through the winter? I'd think that probably isn't enough to carry on through the winter.

What a way to lose weight!

We will all stop eating and driving so much which will leave us with hunger pains and more exercise.

J/K

I really hope we do not go into another Great Depression era but it is starting to look like it.

I'm afraid so since it doens't look good in stock market and trading lately and the new recordbreaking crude oil and gas prices takes a big toll on economy

Oh, yup... I had noticed about food price was increased at regular grocery store and Super Target, also same to Wal-Mart Supercenter, I was just like ugh at economic issue in USA and economic has went down after Bush got in office, shame on him.

I'm concerned about other great depression and price won't keep stable for long time.

Other way, price of electronic stuff (such as Mac, PC, Xbox 360, PS3, HDTV, PSP, DVD, BD) and clothing are stable, it don't change so much, unlike gas, real estate, food and car.

If one lives in a apartment with several pots, they can grow their food from seeds even in the winter due to the warmth of the apartment and lighting as well.

Growing your own garden does make one lose weight! So if you are looking for another alternative to lose extra weight....grow a garden.

Growing your own food sounds great in theory, but in practice it simply is not a viable alternative for all. If it were, we would not have had grocery stores in existence for centuries. This is a simplistic solution to a very complicated economic problem.

Oh, yeah I already knew about this part. I knew it will happen like this when it comes. I am not surprised. Do you think we will be able to see beyond the year of 2012 ? Probably not - but, hey who knows ? Just keep your eyes peeled.

They will probably say : It's either you choose -- food or roof over your head.

As for me, I would probably choose food rather than the roof over my head.

Yea thing can be scary about food and now I wonder today people start think how many kid they can have into their life...

We can plants who lives in apartment, they have hang thing and the plant grow out the bottom like on commerical tv you see?

I was thinking about that sometime because it nature and health... however, I don't know what else to look about that price food and thing. It is reason why we are face and decide to what where we wants to live and patience with people that live in apartment or same street.

The one problem I sight to see people who abused. Once abused and the price is up... Should we destroy that person for cause everything like we are point at Bush?

It just something to think of...

It's fun, a lot of work, and the rewards are GREAT! Very educational too.

Secondly like I mentioned, one can lose weight, so far I have lost 20 pounds since my greenhouse was completed!

I suggest start off with a small garden to see how you would like it. Also plant your favorite fruit and vegetables that you know you would eat. It doesn't hurt to mix some vegetable plants next to a flowering plant due to insect control.

You can try a box garden, or if you really want to put a lot of sweat in to it--till your own land.

Good luck!

It has already affected our decision of having more kids. We decided not to have another one cuz of all the rising costs. Pretty sad, isnt it?

Thanks! I am searching on Craigslist for a garden box or something like that...

I know I dont eat out near as often as I used to and alot of times I decide to just wait until I get home before I eat something, sometimes if it means waiting all day then fine.

But it is going to be ridiculous when people find themselves standing in soup lines like they did during the Great Depression for their one meal that day and likely not that filling. Those who were born during the Depression were known as the 'stunted generation' due to poor nutrition during their childhood. (unusually small for their age due to a lack proper nutrition).

My grandmother pulled out my Grandfather's Navy Uniform from WWII - he was the equivalent of a size 00 in women's he was that thin when he went in the war. He was like 5'6 or 5'7 and barely weighed 100 pounds. YIKES. Sometimes I wish I could be that skinny but the reality is that he wasnt skinny on purpose - he was skinny because he really wasnt getting proper nutrition.
