It will be interesting to see who is nominated to fill the vacancy. I heard that Mel Martinez's name is being batted around.

Will be interesting, indeed.

I'm afraid it will be a battle. Just look at the recent hassle of trying to appoint the district judges. The Supreme Court appointment will be even worse, unless the President caves in to the liberals.

I personally believe this country would benefit if another moderate is appointed to fill the vacancy.

Just my two cents.

I agree whole heartedly, but there is no way it will happen.

I prefer to be alittle more optimistic. Look how conservative Ronald Reagan was yet he appointed O'Conner who voted more moderately than a LOT of people thought. So, it could happen. If not, we can dream, can't we?

When it comes to making good decision, I will never trust Bush. I had alot more respect for Reagan as a person than I do for Bush.

Remember hispanics hold a bigger minority vote than blacks do. Remember what cost al gore and janet reno the election? Clinton sent little elian back to commie cuba. Hispanics RULE FLORIDA Thats why democrats lost in 2000

Oh. good grief.

Lets try to leave delusions out of this, shall we? I do agree with you on one point you made. There's two Hispanics being talked about to possibly fill the vacancy, but your reasoning for this is whacked. Simply, put. Bush wants to try to appease the religious conservatives. Therefore, Martinez and Gonzalez's names are being talked about. But, regardless, he's going to have a fight on his hands. There will probably be a filibuster, and a huge fight before a judge is confirmed.

Where is your source for this?

I don't think Tom Delay is really stupid enough to nuke his own country. He's an idiot, yes, but he's not that much of one! As for the Democrats losing seats, that's temporary. It's the ebb and flow of things. Remember back in the '80s when Congress was controlled by the Democrats? Expect that to happen again. It's how this country is run. We get tired of one party, so we vote in the other party. After awhile, we get tired of the way things are, so we switch again. It's how it is. Don't get too comfy. Things could change on you in a hurry!

You dont even know what a nuclear option is dont ya? A nuclear option is all business in the senate will shut down until after the 2006 election. That would be no more laws will be passed. No more bills to the presidents desk. That means all your senators will take a really long vacation until democrats come to their sences.

No, I didn't know what you were talking about. Even still, I don't think that will happen, either. Tom Delay had better worry about his own problems. He's gotten himself in some serious doo doo and he could face sanctions if he's found to have committed ethics violations. Not to mention he and the other conservative law makers have egg all over their faces from the Schiavo debachle. Oh, I'd say he's got enough to worry about right now, wouldn't you?

Get this Guy!!

Hes Hispanic and 58 years old.

Emilio Garza, 58, is a former Marine captain who was originally considered for a Supreme Court seat in 1991 by the first President Bush.
Appointed a federal judge by President Reagan in 1988, he was elevated to the New Orleans-based 5th US Circuit Court of Appeals in 1991.
Born in San Antonio, Texas, Mr Garza is said to be a popular candidate among many of his fellow Hispanics.
But his candidacy will not be welcomed by liberals who fear he is likely to support a change in laws protecting abortion rights.
He has in the past suggested he would vote to overturn the landmark 1973 Roe v Wade ruling that legalised abortion.
And he has also suggested that abortion regulation should be decided by state legislatures.
"Ontological issues such as abortion are more properly decided in the political and legislative arenas," he wrote in a 1997 opinion.

And belive you me if democrats fillabuster Hillery Rodham Clinton WILL NOT BECOME PRESIDENT Cause hispanics will not vote for her.

**sigh* There's a strong liklihood that Hilary won't become President, anyway. You forget your meds today, Steve? Your obsessiveness is starting to show.

No better way to start the Fourth of July weekend with a lot of fireworks going on over the vacating supreme court seat. And some of these fireworks could be nuclear.

I never in my life thought I would say this, Miss P, but I agree with you! Problem, though. Arnold can't become President. He is a naturalized citizen. He's from Austria, and I believe that one is not eligible to become President in this country unless they are a born citizen. Nice thought, though. I'd like to see Christy Todd Whitman get the nod. I think she would make a good President or even Vice President.

Wow..long time O'Connor's been in her job -- I remember her being hired by the then President Ronald Reagan in the early 80's. Gawd, I'm getting so frigging old, lol!

1. gay marriage is not legal
2. Congress will not ammend the Constitution for a flat out stupid reason like this
3. the Republican Party's base will NEVER EVER back a pro-choice candidate for President.
