This is in my local newspaper. It's a shame that this lady had to do something so dumb when she was angry....why didn't she just walk off to her car and leave, and have the cigarette put out in an ashtray or something? -- Nancy

Officials Say Fire Was Arson; Suspect Admits Setting Blaze

PLANT CITY -- An angry flick of a cigarette sparked the fire Monday night that caused $3 million in damage, roared through several historic buildings and destroyed seven businesses, investigators said Thursday.

Arson charges were filed against the ex-girlfriend of Mark Simpson, the owner of Mark's Electronics on 104 E. Martin Luther King Blvd., which was destroyed by the fire.

Angelica Ruth Lockett, 58, admitted to investigators that she walked to the back of her ex-boyfriend's store and tossed a lit cigarette onto some bedding, and then walked away, according to Detective Kevin L. Shireman of the State Fire Marshal's Office.
