Did you see..

Did you see on the news about Laci Peterson, the pregnant woman who was missing in Californa a couple of months ago? They found her body and the baby in the lake. They also found weights that probably was tied on her to keep her body down the bottom of the lake

Whoever did this is sick

The investigators and her family, including her husband's family suspect it was her husband because he was with another women.

Edit: woman, not women.

You mean Susan Smith? I remember that one.. her boys were so adorable..

It's already been confirmed that it IS Laci and the baby. Her husband has already been arrested as an suspect. I personally think it is him, but "innocent unless proven guilty." It just doesn't seem right that he'd go fishing on Christmas eve, and even trade his wife's car for a new pickup truck, and also try to sell the house? Something's fishy here..

MODESTO, Calif. (April 18) - Scott Peterson was arrested Friday in the death of his wife, Laci, who was eight months pregnant when she vanished on Christmas Eve. The arrest came as authorities confirmed that two bodies that washed ashore this week were those of Laci and her baby.

Prosecutors said they planned on charging Peterson with double homicide for the deaths of Laci and the infant son. ``He'll be charged with capital murder,'' with the option of seeking the death penalty, said Stanislaus County District Attorney Jim Brazelton. ``There are no other suspects in this case.''

Peterson, 30, was arrested by plainclothes police in San Diego before noon Friday. The arrest was made hours before the results of DNA tests on the bodies were known because Peterson was considered a flight risk, and had indicated that he had discovered he was under police surveillance, California Attorney General Bill Lockyer said.

Modesto police and state agents used wire taps on phones and radio transponders on vehicles to keep track of Peterson's whereabouts in the San Diego area, where his parents live, Lockyer said. Authorities obtained an arrest warrant Thursday, and feared Peterson might flee to Mexico, said Modesto Police Chief Roy Wasden.

He wouldn't discuss possible motives for the alleged murder.

Peterson was being driven to the Stanislaus County jail in Northern California on Friday night for a court appearance next week. His attorney, Kirk McAllister, did not immediately return telephone messages Friday from The Associated Press.

The arrests came nearly a week after the badly decomposed bodies of Laci Peterson, and her son were found within a mile of each other - about three miles from where Scott Peterson said he went fishing the day his wife disappeared.

The bodies were identified Friday evening through a comparison with DNA samples from Scott Peterson and Laci Peterson's parents.

``We're scientifically convinced the match is one in billions,'' Lockyer said.

A spokeswoman for Laci Peterson's family said relatives were devastated by the confirmation of the deaths, but grateful they finally had an answer after months of uncertainty.

``Families in their circumstances will always tell you the worst thing is not knowing,'' said spokeswoman Kim Petersen, executive director of the Carole Sund-Carrington Memorial Reward Foundation. ``I don't know if relief is the right word. ... The waiting this week has been horrific for them.''

Friday's announcements drew a crowd of well-wishers to the Peterson's home. Many brought flowers, some stood silent while others said quiet prayers. They remembered Laci Peterson as a bright, friendly person.

``My heart goes out to the family,'' said Shanti Cardey, 29, outside the house with her two young girls. ``I feel a lot of sadness and anger. I feel very sorry for the family, I pray for them everyday.''

Raynette Poe, 36, said she was angry: ``How can he hurt his own child and why? My heart goes out to Laci's family.''

From virtually the moment his wife was reported missing, Scott Peterson's moves and statements have been scrutinized by authorities.

Modesto police seized his boat, pickup truck and nearly 100 items from the couple's house but had not formally named him as a suspect in his wife's disappearance.

Peterson traded in his wife's Land Rover for a new pickup truck, considered selling their home and eventually admitted an extramarital affair with a massage therapist while his wife was pregnant with the couple's baby.

Shortly after, Peterson said he'd told his wife about the affair in the days before she vanished.

``It (the affair) was not a positive, obviously ... but it was not something that we weren't dealing with,'' he told ABC's ``Good Morning America.'' ``It wasn't anything that would break us apart.''

The affair turned Laci Peterson's family against the son-in-law they had earlier supported. They begged him to cooperate with Modesto police, who had labeled him ``uncooperative.''

Scott Peterson launched his own search effort, separate from the one organized by his wife's family and sanctioned by police. At one point, as searchers looked in the San Francisco Bay and around Modesto, Scott Peterson showed up in Los Angeles to distribute fliers to volunteers at a local hotel.

``We simply have to expand the geographical area,'' he said at the time.

In February, Scott Peterson told MSNBC he missed his wife and the child she was to bear.

``I can't drive. I can't sleep,'' he said then. ``Sometimes I feel I just can't do it. I feel like I'm in a dark corner and I just can't function.''

They're going to put murder charges against him WITH an option of death penalty, so wait and see when the case goes into court.

MODESTO, Calif. (April 20) - Scott Peterson was carrying $10,000 when detectives, fearing he might try to flee the country, pulled him over about 30 miles from the Mexico border and arrested him.

Hours later, authorities would announce that DNA tests showed two bodies found on the shore near San Francisco were his pregnant wife, Laci, missing since Dec. 23, and their unborn son.

Peterson had repeatedly denied any role in his wife's disappearance, and police had avoided labeling him a suspect. But authorities say he knew he was being tracked.

Modesto Police Chief Roy Wasden sought the arrest warrant for Peterson a day before the bodies were identified because he feared Peterson might flee to Mexico, where law forbids extradition of anyone facing the death penalty. Prosecutors in Stanislaus County plan to charge Peterson, 30, with capital murder for the deaths of his 27-year-old wife and their unborn son.

Peterson, now jailed, is expected to be arraigned as early as Monday.

''Like many people who are in jail for the first time, he wants to know what's next,'' said Stanislaus County Sheriff's spokesman Kelly Huston.

He hasn't talked much to the guards, though he has been polite and cooperative, Huston said.

He has also been segregated from other inmates, who know he's there and ''definitely have some unfavorable opinions of him,'' Huston said.

Peterson's attorney, Kirk McAllister, has not commented on the case or returned weekend calls to his office.

In an interview with Time magazine, Peterson's father, Lee, said ''police have just bungled this investigation from day one.''

''We're grieving for the baby, as Scott is for Laci,'' he told the magazine.

When detectives arrested him Friday, Scott Peterson's dark hair had been dyed reddish-blond and he had grown a goatee. A law enforcement official who spoke on condition of anonymity said Sunday that he also had $10,000 with him.

From the start, police had focused attention on Peterson, who acknowledged that he had an affair with another woman last year but said his wife, due to give birth in February, knew about it.

They spent days searching the waters near the Berkeley Marina, where Peterson said he went fishing the day his wife disappeared, and they seized the 14-foot boat and trailer he used. The bodies were later found about three miles from the marina after a storm.

Laci Peterson's family has shied from the spotlight since the bodies were discovered.

Outside the Peterson home, a memorial to 27-year-old Laci Peterson and the boy she had already named Connor continued to grow Sunday with additions of flowers, candles and toys.

Michelle McKinney hugged her daughter and wiped away tears as she watched her 12-year-old son add a blue and gold teddy bear.

''The baby didn't get a chance to live his life and grow up,'' said McKinney, 33. ''She didn't get a chance to enjoy her baby.''

Many in this central California city of 200,000 never met Laci Peterson, a 27-year-old with the big smile and dimples, but after the months of searching and vigils that followed her disappearance, they felt they knew her.

A makeshift wooden cross covered with aluminum foil on the Peterson lawn reads: ''We prayed everyday that Laci and Baby Connor would come home. Now, Laci and Baby Connor are home with the Lord.''

The city has had more than its share of yellow ribbons and tragedies.

In May 2001, Modesto resident Chandra Levy, 24, disappeared in Washington, D.C., triggering speculation about her relationship with Rep. Gary Condit. One year later, a walker found Levy's body in a Washington park, but police still have made no arrests.

Condit, a Democrat, lost his bid for re-election last year.

Modesto was also a command center after the 1999 disappearance of three women in Yosemite National Park. Five weeks later, authorities found Carole Sund, 43, her daughter, Juli, 15, and Argentina exchange student Silvina Pelosso, 16, murdered in nearby foothills. A jury convicted motel handyman Cary Stayner last year and sentenced him to death.

''Once again we're being brought together. I don't like what we're being brought together for the last three years, but we stand together,'' said Diana Morris, 33. ''We stand together and we're behind each other.''
