Why California?
Why not move to MISSISSIPPI? We ain't all rednecks.
Updated: 08:57 AM EST Storms Threaten More California Mudslides By MICHAEL R. BLOOD, AP Firefighters survey the damage after rains caused the roof of a store to collapse in Burbank, Calif. LOS ANGELES (Feb. 20) - Powerful thunderstorms hammered already saturated Southern California on Saturday with soaking rain and hail, flooding roads and homes, knocking out power to thousands of customers and raising the threat of mudslides. La Conchita, the coastal hamlet where 10 people were killed by a huge landslide last month, was a ghost town after the U.S. Geological Survey warned that none of the roughly 150 remaining homes could be considered safe. In a year of record rainfall, the latest storms had soaked downtown Los Angeles with about 2 inches of rain since Thursday. The area has seen nearly three times the average rainfall this season, and periodic showers are expected for several more days throughout the state. ''All of California's going to get a shot of rain in the next couple of days, but most of it will be from Santa Barbara south,'' said National Weather Service meteorologist Steve Anderson ''That's the bull's-eye for the next two days.'' The unsettled weather even produced two tornadoes that briefly touched down in San Diego and Riverside counties. Each lasted about two minutes, breaking windows, and knocking over trees and power lines. No injuries were reported. ''It's sort of a miniature version of what you might see in the Great Plains,'' said Steven Vanderburg, a National Weather Service forecaster in San Diego. The storm knocked out power to thousands of customers in the area, according to Southern California Edison and the Los Angeles Department of Water and Power. Rain may also have contributed to a highway crash Saturday that injured 10 people in the San Fernando Valley, where a bus carrying tourists rear-ended a sport utility vehicle on the Ventura Freeway. The Red Cross opened an emergency shelter in Long Beach, where residents had to evacuate seven homes because of flooding, spokeswoman Margaret Madonna said. Amtrak canceled Los Angeles-to-Santa Barbara commuter rail service from Friday night through Sunday afternoon because of mudslides in Moorpark. Mudslides also threatened homes in Culver City, in Los Angeles County, and in the Orange County cities of Mission Viejo and Anaheim, authorities said. During the early morning, authorities shut down a two-mile stretch of Interstate 5 for several hours through the City of Commerce, south of downtown Los Angeles, because it was flooded by a foot of water. Similar flooding was reported along the 710 Freeway in Long Beach. The weekend storm was expected to dump up to 2 feet of snow at higher elevations of the Sierra Nevada, adding to an already impressive snowpack. 02/20/05 08:53EST

Think about what you are asking for there Miss P! There are 35 1/2 MILLION of them! There are less than 3 million people in Mississippi right now on 46,907 square miles. That is 60 people per square mile already. Do the math and see if you want that many people living in your back yard!

Why cant they move to southern texas? They can buy land pay no property taxes plus theres no state income taxes in texas. They can get away from earthquakes and mudslides. Theres miles of empty land you can build a new californian neighborhood in southern texas.

I just hate to see people suffer.
Misery, Misery, Misery..... What is wrong with Mississippi, Land is land. I think they stay in California, because of Hollywood and Disney.

Why dont the Eldery retire in mississippi? Hell these old bats rather come to florida and blame the govermemt because FEMA didnt come out to the rescue and give em taxpayer money to rebuild their homes. Go to Mississippi and you dont have to worry about hurricanes destroying your home so you can blame FEMA didnt pay you to rebuild your home.

Being a native and proud Californian, I resent your remarks. California is not about Disney or Hollywood.
I would rather die in a mudslide or earthquake there than be stuck for 90 years living in land of bigots who keep missing her meds like you. Sheesh..you are too much today. Maybe you need to double your meds or remember to take it when instructed. |

You are better off moving to Iowa or Nebraska but I doubt you are a man enough to survive winters there. |

I never said you are miseducated about gays. I simply said you are a bigot who cannot keep her big nose out of other peoples lives. They are not here to make your life miserable as you claim. Quite contrary, the only person who can make yourself miserable is YOU YOU YOU. |

But, if I was given a choice between facing a category 5 hurricane or a F-0 tornado, I'd face the hurricane. Why? Reason is, you get more warning when a hurricane is coming. When a hurricane is approaching, they issue a watch. A watch means that hurricane conditions are likely within 48 hrs. Then, it goes to a warning. A warning means hurricane conditions are likely within 24 hrs. You still have time to prepare. You could have mere mins with a tornado, and that would scare the life out of me, so no. Given the choice, I'll take a hurricane over a tornado any day. |

I have met many wonderful loving sweet people from Mississppi so I am not saying it is ALL. Again, I think you need to read more clearly than jumping to conclusions. You attacked California - you assumed that ALL Californians live there cos of Disney or Hollywood. So why cant YOU practice what you preach??! |

But you know what..I think your idea is great. Let all Californians move to Mississppi and shove their attitudes/lifestyles down your throat. Before you know it, you will regret this generous offer. You will find more reasons to rant and rave - gays, liberals, Democrats, etc etc. You are simply asking for more trouble. Better take back your offer so you can remain safe behind your overused computer and throw words, as you are not strong enough to do it in person. |

That is what Im referring to. I never bash any group, religion or race. Yes I bash Republican politics but not anyone who is Republican unless they bash me first. You are bashing everyone based on their sexual orientation. Again, I have no desire to bash you but simply telling you to back off on other people. |

I know... ![]() I went off on my little "Florida rant". Please excuse me. ![]() It doesn't matter where you live, really. Everyone has to deal with incliment weather. Even where I was from (DC/Metro area), we had ice storms in the winter. So, it really doesn't matter. You gotta deal with something no matter where you live. |

Why is it I am always wrong? Why do you really live in California?
If you didn't live there because of Hollywood and Disney? Can anybody be honest with me? Why live in California when taxes are skyhigh? It doesn't make sense to live in California for no reason. There are other lands... such as New Mexico and Arizona and Nevada or other places like that. Most people don't live by the ocean in California, anyway....
