Higher phone fees in Chicago?

You are talking about a dollar or so more per month, right?

Yeah, but I'm already paying enough as it is, thanks to AT&T. If they pass this, my bill could go past $70/month, and I won't have that. I'm already paying close to $70, anyhow.

You may need drop the voice plan to save money. :hmm:

It's a 911 fee. Since you really enjoy calling 911, you ought to be willing to pay your share.

It's a Cricket phone. I did ask if that was possible, and they said no. Plus, it has a hotspot for home visit purposes, so that's something I'm gonna need. And since the AT&T/Cricket merger a few months back, things haven't gotten better.

It sound like it is to fund 911 services rather then a homeowner milage. Seems fair to me - everyone with a phone has access to the service - not just homeowners. Public safety is expensive!

what if it's only 50 cents increase?

What if you need to report a crime or kid locked in a hot car , I hope you'll not just walk by and do nothing.

I hope he will record it and then upload it for public shaming. oh wait.. he won't be able to do that if he's done with cell phones.

at&t is notorious for higher fee on phone bill but I saved more money after switch to Verizon.

Also, sale tax possibly include revenues to fund 911 call center.

Don't need to be on subscription plan to make 911 calls, any phone made after specific year which I can't recall requires ability to make 911 calls even when the service is disconnected.

Can use smartphone without service, all need is WiFi. Can save $70 dollars if willing spend little more time looking for WiFi spots.

what if you need 911? what if you're outside the city?

Good thinking.

I wish I had a cell phone to take a photo of a woman feeding the ducks at the pond today. There is a $300 fine in my city for doing this.

Why? My grandma took us to park to fed ducks with breads and we had no problem. :dunno:
