CHP: Truck in Orland crash slammed into charter bus, killing 9 | News - KCRA Home

Very sad....happened earlier tonight about 100 miles from where I live. A charter bus carrying students from Southern CA on a trip to look at colleges was hit head on by a Fed-X truck. Bus caught on fire and nine of these poor kids were killed and others seriously injured. Makes me sick to my stomach. These poor parents are getting the calls that all parents dread.

RIP to these young people who lives were just beginning.

It's always hardest for me to deal with kids dying. In the ER, I can always handle the adults, because they had a chance to live... it's the kids who barely got a shot that hit me the hardest. :(

I can't imagine what these poor parents are going through. Getting a call like that, not knowing exactly who is safe and who is not. It is my greatest fear as a parent. I've lost one child and could never do it again.

This after the school stabbing yesterday. Too much loss lately.

10 killed in crash involving bus carrying high school students

A FedEx tractor-trailer crossed a grassy freeway median in Northern California and slammed into a bus carrying high school students on a visit to a college. At least ten people were killed in the fiery crash.

Both drivers are among the fatalities, along with three of four chaperones who were on the bus, and five students.

What happened? The truck also sideswiped another car before crashing into the bus. The condition of the car's driver was unknown.

Road still be closed till noon today.

This is horrible, a parent's worst nightmare. :(

Tragic. I can't imagine the parents' grief. :(

I saw this on TV and it so tragic . The poor families . :(
I wonder if the truck driver was texting or falling asleep.

*shudders* I just cant think about it. My heart goes out to their families.

Saw it on the news and it was tragic. I once lost a classmate my senior year in HS. My whole class was devastated and graduation was bittersweet. Now the thought of 9 students GONE. its heartbreaking. The class will grieve for a long time and parents even longer.

I heard on the news that the FedEx driver could had fallen asleep at the wheel . I think the cops should find out how long that guy was driving and if it was too long FedEx needs to made some changes in how long their drivers can be on the road. It would be horrible if this accident was cause by someone driving too tried.

It is not a matter of "the" class as it was a group of students from a number of different schools. This is what one of the St. Louis TV stations (KMOV) has on their web site: The bus was taking students from various Los Angeles-area schools to visit Humboldt State University in Arcata. The collision occurred in Orland, about 100 miles north of Sacramento.

Oh my. That's even more terrible, as it is multiple schools that will be grieving. :(

There are people across the country that are sadden by this too , it's always tragic to heard of kids dying so young in a horrible accident . These students never got to live their full lives and that is very sad. And Easter and Passover is almost here and this has very painful for the poor parents . :(

The latest is there was a small passenger car involved that caused the Fed-X driver to lose control. The bus driver, truck driver and eight students have been killed.

I heard that too but the news reporters where not sure of this. Do you know if the person in the small car was hurt too? How horrible that some damn fool cause this tragic accident killing ten people and five where students.

Updated now.....5 students, 3 chaperones, bus driver and Fed-X driver killed. Total 10

12 students still remain hospitalized.

No word on the driver of the small car still under investigation.

Two threads merged. :)
