Restraining order against a bully

They say he overdid it but if no one was doing anything about it... Then its good he did something even if its weird way to deal with it.

It is unusual-- bullying leaves mental scars, and that's a parent's worst nightmare-- it can lead the child to do things never before imaginable.

Before stepping that far...I would have gone to the bully's Parents first, and try to work it out from there. If that did not work...I would confront the bully myself....Most times, when my 3 boys were bullied, they solved it themselves. My boys always had each other's backs...so they were not bullied hardly at all.

I was bullied a lot in school-- it made me a better person today.

I was bullied too but i used to take care of it myself. Only once did my parents have to get involved.

Ahhhh, the power of the Criminal Justice system knows no boundaries these days!

Back then I didn't know how to handle bullish behavior, because not only was I being bullied at school, my mom wasn't treating me very well, and both of these today make me a much better person, and pro-peace.

Thought this was interesting because that's an unusual way of dealing with a child bully. What do you think? Since the school refused to do anything about it, I think the father did the right thing.

Father Files Restraining Order Against Son's Alleged Bully

A father who says his 9-year-old son was bullied at school has taken a dramatic step to protect him from the boy who's allegedly responsible.

"A northern California father tired of his son being bullied at school has decided to take action against the alleged bully by filing a restraining order."

Stephen Feuder says his son was assaulted earlier this month while he was trying to protect a fellow classmate.

"Apparently, the little boy laughed, ran around the track, came back again and punched my son in the face."

After his son told him about the alleged assault, Feuder told KDFX had no choice but to get the restraining order because school officials refused to do anything about it.

As you might have guessed, a restraining order against a grade schooler is a pretty unusual situation for local police.

"Commonly for us, it's a domestic violence situation. Obviously this is a little different. You know, I guess as a parent, you have to do what you have to do."

Now, there's no rule against the restraining order. But, in order for it to go into effect, it must be served within five days - and the school district has refused to release the alleged bully's name and address to Feuder because of confidentiality laws.

A school official told ABC, "Bullying is a serious issue and we understand that. ... [But] we just can't expel somebody and kick them out of school, there are certain laws we have to follow."

Feuder is scheduled to appear in court April 2 to convince school officials to release the boy's full name and address so the restraining order can be served.

Oh wow, I think this school should lose the federal funding until bully issue is fixed, also California needs to reform the anti-bully policies to make easier to expel students and send them to alternative school, or more worse, juvenile detention center or outdoor education.

Yes I agree. It's bad enough when it happens but if the school refuses to do anything about it, that's worse.

I was reading people's comments below that article and someone said, doesn't the son know the bully's name? And another, "follow the bully home to get the address".

I believe it's illegal for a federal government to threaten a school to take action or lose federal funding since there's no federal law/policy on bullying.

I should tell my girlfriend that her son has been bullied by other kids almost every week or every other day.

It happened to my friend's son one time. He was bullied by a kid who is a troublemaker a few years ago in a middle school at that time. Even though that principal was aware, but he did not do anything about bullying, so therefore, my friend did warn that principal if you do not do anything about it, then I am going to file a restraining order against that troublemaker kid. That eventually forced that principal to think twice about it. Finally, that troublemaker kid was expelled for good (he was in jail a few times afterwards).

Unfortunately a lot of these little bullies have parents that are big bullies.

This is an issue that we have dealt with for two years. The school my son goes to has a huge racist and bullying against my son. We spoke with teacher, parents, all the way to the BOE and was told the same thing, there is nothing they can do and we should take him to a different school that had more white students. So, we taught him how to defend himself and told him as long as he didn't hit first I did not care. As soon as he stood up for himself the whole school system blew up on him. So we took him out of the school and home schooled him while I was home pregnant. This year we put him back in school, and still have the issues again. Not sure what to do now; half a thought of this dad's idea....humm.

Its sad how the bully is defended more than the victim. Usually those who bully are going through some problem themselves. Schools should take the responsability of see. Whats wrong and help out both the bully and the kid been bullied.

It would help if you read the story before making a comment on it.
The school will not tell the father the bully name or address so he can't talk to kid.
This is from the story .

"After all of this the restraining order may end up being null and void. It has to be served within five days, but the school district won’t release the boy’s name or address to Feuder. He’s hoping a judge will compel them to do that."

Super sensitive today, huh?....Since both boys go to the same school, feel sure the kid would know the bully's name...what school bus he rode, etc., etc.....Even what classes he was in.....

Anyhow, sorry about ur hearing aids and not being able to "hear"...good time to learn ASL...WDYS!...
