It is sad, but at least they're being recognized now. Should've happened years ago.

I wanted to have a marker for my dad as he was in WW1 and the
cemetery wanted me to pay $250 to put a marker in front of his headstone. The VA was paying for the marker and the head of the Veteran Affair Office could not believe that the Jewish cemetery wanted me to pay $$$ to honor my dad. This was about 6 years ago. Dad dies in 1967 and the army did not put and marker at his grave site. I had to have VAO help me get dad discharge papers so I could get a small marker to put on front of his headstone. At least the army came to dad funeral and had a flag on his coffin.

He got the military honors. That itself is a form of recognition for his service.

:(Yes, I saw this too. Another part of the tragedy of war. I saw how on the living veteran's faces, they were so stoic. I wondered what they were thinking.

I'm sorry about what happened with your dad, WDYS-
