Lunches seized from kids in debt at Salt Lake City elementary

I saw that on the news , and I was outrage . We can give billons of $$$ to other countries but will not give our kids a free meal! WTF!

Wasteful way of handling the situation.

This is unbelievable!

In my opinion the child-nutrition manager should be fired without severance and have to go through counseling before working with children again. And the cost of the lunches thrown away should be taken out of any back pay owed.

The accounting department needs some retraining if they let the situation get that out of control. Send the parents to collection if you need to - or investigate public assistance they may qualify for - just don't put the kids in the middle of it.

Happened to my boy also...he came home and told me he could not get any Lunch...but his friend let him use his ticket...and my son eats a lot!...I was livid...and called the Principal about it, alto' it took several days to even reach him on the phone!

Gave my son $40 dollars to put on his ticket...and told him to please remind me when he needed more...I'm sure some Parents forget these things...but it's not the child's fault and they need to eat....Feel the school office, even the teacher should have called the parent, even leave a message to remind the Parent.

Same thing with "breakfast"...the line was so veryyyy long...my son could not get breakfast before the school bell rang....even tho' he had his ticket....this happened several times....so I called the school and raised Hell!...For about a week....:giggle:...(and in order not to get any more calls from me, threatening to sue the School Board)....they made sure my Son got in line in time to get breakfast....and also got more cafeteria workers to serve the students faster.....

At my kids school in Myrtle Beach if their lunch accounts were empty the kids got an "alternative" lunch. I think like a ham sandwich and milk or something......but at least something. That seems unethical for a school to do.

Well for starters the poor kids can beat up the rich nerds and take their lunch money...lol
Here, we get a notice sent home that the account for whichever kid is empty and we have to "reload" it also if our kids had any extras or had meals since we are charged for the extras and given a deadline to pay it by or the meals stop and they get an alternative which is peanut butter sammiches and milk ( since they cant figure out how to make milk sammiches either....lol)

That's what our school does, too. A cold sandwich and milk (maybe fruit also). Nothing fancy but nutritious. They certainly don't throw out the lunch. They "pay" before getting their food so they don't have to give it back if there's a deficit.

My wifes son is like that, he eats his meal then get all these extras which we told him to stop ( he doesnt need the candy and 2 extra milks and whatever else) told him if he burns up his lunch on junk food before the end of the month then he will do without til he gets home or he can take his lunch or eat the alternative lunch ( which both would be peanut butter sammiches...lol) thats an idea.. he will get 2 sammiches if he took lunch and filled that belly of his.

I thought schools had to quit using peanut butter because of kids with allergies?

This reminds me; when I was in school, today would be fish sticks for lunch.

Make lunch free to all students are best option, so no need to beat up the rich kids.

Who would pay for the food?

from education funds, especially taxpayers.

Some city schools offer free lunches to children.

I don't mind to pay taxes to support nutrient needs for children.

At deaf school, all kids get free lunches.

Low income students at hearing school can apply for free lunches too.

I would be happy to. I can think of a lot worse uses for my taxes than feeding children.

Yes, I don't like corporate welfare and any of our money goes to Wall Street or oversea, especially bailout.

If the workers had already dispensed the food... There is so many things wrong with this. I would fire everyone... if I could. Totally cruel and inhumane.
