Directv Customers

(CBS News) DirecTV subscribers may be out of luck tonight if they want to watch MTV or Comedy Central.
Viacom says 26 of its channels could go dark at midnight for 20 million DirecTV subscribers if the companies can't work out an agreement to replace their current deal.

DirecTV and Viacom have been at odds for months over a carriage fee dispute. Viacom's distribution agreement with DirecTV is set to expire at midnight.

Viacom explained in a blog post that despite its "best efforts, DirecTV has rejected all of our proposals to renew our agreement. This evening, DirecTV provided Viacom with a counter proposal that included a lower rate than Viacom receives from any other distributor in the industry. With this offer, our negotiations have reached an impasse."

DirecTV, meanwhile, said on its website that it has "absolutely no intention of removing your favorite Viacom networks ... but unfortunately Viacom executives sent a letter to us late last night, forcing us to take these channels down by midnight tonight if we don't come to an agreement."

"Viacom wants you to pay over 30 percent more to keep the channels you are already receiving," costing customers $1 billion, DirecTV notes.

But Viacom says its agreement with DirecTV is "seven years old - ancient by the standards of the ever-evolving media industry - which means that DirecTV has enjoyed way below market rates for Viacom's networks for a very long time."

Viacom includes Nickelodeon, MTV, Comedy Central, BET, VH1, CMT, Spike TV, TV Land and other channels.

DIRECTV Viacom Dispute

I'm not happy about this situation and I don't want to lose MTV, Spike and Comedy Channel.

Foxrac,

If you have a contract with DirecTV, you should demand a full month rebarte for lost of service. Remember you are paying to get certain channels.
I did this with Comcast and did get a full month rebate. Continue to demand a rebate for as long as ALL the channels you are scheduled to get under the contract are not shown. Good luck

Well, DirecTV should give millions of its customers a credit, even though they don't have to call the company and ask for it. If it didn't, it could be sued and everybody will find out that the company is trying to rip them off. The same thing happened to some credit card companies, FIOS, etc.

I'm still not happy and I don't like Encore.

Both company are lose money. What are they think???

DirectTV will lose on loss subscribe or offer free month.
Viacom will lose on low rating from the commercial ads.

That's stupid.

Oh yes, I agree with you about quality of service is getting worse.

1) weather inference, very easy for shows to be down during rain
2) some shows went black screen blinking
3) some shows have scrambled pictures for several minutes
4) CC went messed up that so I had to reset the DVR receiver few times
5) the receivers are lagging when try to scroll the channel listing and freeze for seconds
6) some receivers have problem with shut down for no reason

There are no cable service in our neighborhood but I heard about Charter is going install the cable in a matter of time. I don't want switch to Dish Network because they are just bad as DirecTV, also Dish Network lost AMC channel, overpriced fees for extra HD and very unfriendly to GLBT customers.

In few days ago, I wrote a comment about ask DirecTV to show a math work about how fees will be increased? how does increase to extra $1 billion? Viacom wants to increase 2 cents extra per day per subscriber?

DirecTV deleted my comment and I guess they don't want to show a math work. I think about want ask Viacom to show a math work and Viacom said DirecTV made $5 billions in profits per year, expected to be record in 2012.

I used to have DirecTV a long time ago. I had bought a HD DVR from the company with TIVO service. I loved TIVO. The picture quality from DirecTV was not that good and sometimes it had pixelation issues due to compressed video signals.

After Verizon FIOS was installed in my hometown, I immediately switched to it. So far so good. It has the best picture quality (as well as the highest internet speed) due to fiber optic technology. No more compressions in video signals. FIOS DVR service is not that bad, however I still miss TIVO which is the best and most expensive of all.

I found Disney Junior has no commercial and it is very suitable for preschool kids, that's very similar to original Disney Channel (1983-1997). I remember about in morning, there were mostly preschool/kiddie shows like Good Morning Mickey, Donald Duck Presents and Under the Umbrella Tree.

I started watch Disney Channel in 1991 and hey kids, there were NO Mickey Mouse Clubhouse but... I prefer Good Morning Mickey all way.

There is no cable in our neighborhood but we could get them to install the cable in our neighborhood.

Viacom channels are only 5% of DirecTV's $10 billion dollars ($500 million dollars) and represent to 20% viewers. Asking for 2 cents increase per day, per subscriber isn't expensive - 60 cents per month or $7.20 per year. Directv stated about $1 billion dollars contract is actually 10 years and they don't mention about years because they are trying to make price to scare the customers.

Now, I missed some of my favorite shows on Spike and online streaming are not closed caption.

I'm not happy with Disney Junior that Directv provided because I want original Disney Channel as premium channel with more Disney characters cartoon.

Disney Junior is good if you are little kid, just like Nick Jr.

Word of caution for these long term DirecTV customers, they will deduct your money from your bank account without your consent! I never allow auto-pay or made agreement that they can deduct from my bank account without my prior approval. They are greedy SOB So, if your thinking of subscribe DTV, my advise think twice! I also found out that Time Warner is much better than DTV.
DirecTV don't care about long term customers like me and other friends of mine too. Wow! SAD!
