While this is true, it is only at certain times and usually there are warnings. I wouldn't say you have to be advanced so much as know what you are doing. For the most part, people stay pretty close to shore.

In NJ, I've heard there is a big fight for public access to beaches through private property. In MA, those issues are not prevalent.

And as an aside, my Black girlfriends won't go near a pool because the water messes with their hair. I've heard them say 100 times "Black people and water don't mix". But these are Black teenage girls, not Black young kids just wanting to have a good time in the water (not old enough to care about getting their hair wet.)
Weaves cost big money so that is understandable.

In Boston, we had a woman die in a public pool:

I don't think they ever found the cause, but a few people have been fired for it.

Woman Dies in Pool After Boy Reports Her Drowning to Lifeguards in Fall River, MA - ABC News

Quote from the article:

"Autopsy results released from the Bristol County District Attorney's office today say that Joseph accidentally drowned.

B.J. Fisher, head of the American Lifeguard Association, told ABC News today that cloudy water likely played a "major role" in the body's apparently going unnoticed."

I just can't believe that a lifeguard said "I am on break" when someone reported a drowning. What a crazy world we live in!

If black people have cornrow so they have to wear shower cap.

If black people don't have cornrow so they don't need to wear shower cap.

They do make swim caps. Until the 60's, almost all women and girls wore them when they went swimming. Now, it's mostly old ladies with perms to protect or competitive swimmers who want a sleeker head for speed. But they can get them.

For those of you too young to remember, it used to be mandatory for all females to wear bathing caps in public swimming pools. Most owners of private and home pools requested caps, too. It had to do with the pool filters.

I remember that. Terrible!

I don't think I would go into a pool that had "cloudy" water.

cornrow - Google Search
I understand that now and also VG234 mentioned weaves so that's why some black girls/women don't want to go into a swimming pool. Well, that's their business.

Rest in peace, Rodney King. Without him and his drug, it wouldn't be an improve for LAPD.

However, I find it irony that he blew up all the money to damage himself.

I think Black issues had nothing with not know how to swimming. It's more like being intoxication which is very common to cause them being drunk and drown. Since, Rodney have history of drug stuff. So, there you go, my best guess.

I don't, as a Bostonian, buy the, "accidental" angle, but it's possible.

On another note, the Bruins just hired an African American first round draft pick, further supporting my claim.

The wife of a guy I know does weaves, unbelievably expensive.

My theory is that Marie Joseph accidentally drowned because when she realized that she hit a kid while sliding down and then swallowed water into her lungs at the same time so she drowned. I think that's how it happened sadly.

But as for Rodney, I suspect a foul play.

Even without corn rows and weaves, Black girls don't get their hair wet. Water makes their hair very extra frizzy and hard to manage. My friends use shower caps when showering. They wash their hair once a month and it's a big event to wash, use chemical "relaxer", straighten with flat iron and dry.
