11 Secret Service Agents terminated

Secret Service revokes security clearances of 11 accused of misconduct - CBS News

Looks like you can't pursue personal interests & vices as a Secret Service agent, or you get the boot.

Quote:
(CBS/AP) WASHINGTON - The Secret Service has revoked the top secret security clearances for all 11 agents and officers accused of misconduct during a presidential mission to Colombia over the weekend.

The Secret Service personnel were sent back to the U.S. through Miami and interviewed in Washington regarding the alleged hiring of prostitutes and other misconduct. They have been placed on administrative leave and barred from entering Secret Service facilities worldwide.

"They are 'do no admit' and their equipment has been taken," a law enforcement official told CBS News correspondent Norah O'Donnell.

Two Secret Service supervisors were among the 11 involved. A top official confirms that the group also included three members of the Counter-Assault Teams, the agents who wear black commando outfits and carry large weapons.

Secret Service officials are rejecting a Wall Street Journal suggesting there is a larger cultural problem at the agency known as "Wheels down, rings off."

"That's not true," a top law enforcement official said. "We hold employees to a high standard. This incident was an anomaly."

Separately Monday, the Pentagon said there may be more U.S. military members under investigation for the alleged inappropriate behavior than the five announced over the weekend.

Pentagon press secretary George Little said Monday that he could not provide a specific number, but that military members who are being investigated were assigned to support the U.S. Secret Service in preparation for President Barack Obama's visit to Cartagena. He said they were not directly involved in presidential security.

A defense official told CBS News correspondent David Martin that it looks like "more than 10" U.S. military personnel could be involved.

The Secret Service sent 11 of its agents home from Colombia amid allegations that they had hired prostitutes at a Cartagena hotel.

The U.S. Southern Command had announced on Saturday that five service members assigned to the presidential mission in Colombia had violated curfew and may have been involved in "inappropriate conduct."

A military source told CBS News the one of the five is an explosives ordnance disposal technician in the Air Force.

This is nothing new, well maybe on this scale it is. The Secret Service has been doing this for years now. How do I know? Well, back in 1986 when Reagan came to town I was working security at a local posh hotel. Reagan was speaking at the local university and having a dinner later that night. Secret Service arrived about a week prior to the president. They had the whole ninth floor rented. The hotel also owned an economy motel next door which we also patrolled. I received a radio call from the night manager of the motel telling me to come over quick. I ran over and he started laughing. He then handed me some binoculars and told me to look at the ninth floor where the shades on the window were open and a light was on in the background. When I found it I could clearly see the perfect silhouette of a man and a woman having sexual relations. I then got an idea and decided to count the windows and figure out their room number. I then rang their phone several times to which they would stop momentarily. We laughed until we almost puked! Later I went back to the hotel lobby and observed the lady coming down out of the glass elevator front the ninth floor. She had on a fur coat and a tight short dress. She looked classy but definitely was a prostitute! This is a true story for those that don't believe it!

I'd say it's a security issue. That'd be one of the weak link to get agents to divulge sensitive information.

I'm not sure most of them are married. being part of Presidential security detail is very demanding and I don't think they spend much of their time home.

good question though.

unfortunately... it's not the kind of job where you can apply for it.

but I doubt those 11 Secret Service agents would have any problem finding another job.... especially in defense contractor sector. Looks like they'll probably make 2-3x more as private bodyguard or instructor for high-level security guards or bodyguards

Even having Monica Lewinsky would've been a security issue never knowing if she could have been an agent or a plant just as Anna Chapman supposedly was.

But a high-ranking FBI official, in a bombshell interview with the BBC, claims a member of the Russian spy ring busted in 2010 was getting a little too close to the commander in chief’s inner circle.

A high-ranking FBI official says Anna Chapman was busted in 2010 spy ring because flame-haired sexpot got too close to sitting President Obama cabinet member.

I doubt Anna Chapman's a Russian plant. She was just role-playing and I guess she realized later that he was actually serious which was why she turned in fake passport at local police station. She was never formally charged with it.

but wooooo! lotsa of hyperventilating in here....

You see hyperventilating everywhere. I wonder if maybe you're confused about what hyperventilating means? From what I can tell it looks like you think it means voicing an opinion that you don't support 100%

According to the news reports, many of the Secret Service guys were married.
what they did is a security risk.
Anna Chapman was a spy (clue: few normal citizens have fake passports)
Politicians engaging in illicit sexual encounters they wish to keep secret: always a security risk. Makes them vulnerable to blackmail if nothing else.

Those are called observations, not hyperventilating. Shrug. I can make those observations and chew my lunch while thinking about whether it's time to start dinner or not all at the same time. Not hyperventilating.
