Zimmerman's defense = Trayvon struck him and the fight ensued. He screamed for help and somehow shot him.

At any rate, at the end of this trial, there will be no "guilty in the second degree". |

jumping to conclusion already? Zimmerman doesn't have rock solid evidence that warrants shooting.

Could be Ms Corey brought the 2nd degree murder charges to apease the black community.....trying to quell all the riots and disturbances that would have continued....along with massive property damages and perhaps deaths....Then again, no one really knows all the evidence in this case.
I note that Martin's mother at one time said she believed it was an "accident"....then she changed her story to "cold blooded murder"......and her saying that, instills more rage, rioting, shootings within the black community, again and again..... |

I agree that was Corey's strategy. It may backfire. If I were GZ I would go to trial. I agree they won't find 12 people who will say guilty to Murder 2 based on the evidence we are aware of.

I am confident that 12 people would convict him based on evidence that will be revealed at court.

ding ding ding! correct! I believe that the recent cases of crimes in his neighborhood had contributed to "ill will" or "spite" that caused him to make a series of foolish mistakes along with cop-wannabe mindset and a history of his explosive anger.

Wha What? She represents the court? What a terrible conflict of interest. She is supposed to represent "the people" or "the county" or "the state" We better alert the media right away.
Maybe you meant an "officer of the court". That would apply to the attorneys on both sides.

The defense lawyers attempted to use "alibi" in post 185? I didn't even know they were on AD.

That's quite a bit of speculation. Interesting.

If you were in the court docket as a defendant, would you want top officials of the United States commenting on your criminal case?
According to "The Washington Examiner," Eric Holder appeared at Al Sharpton's National Action Network Convention to rally this week support for the 17-year-old shooting victim whose case has become a rallying cry for racial injustice. Of course, the "potential federal criminal civil rights crime" he alluded to is not part of the charges levied against George Zimmerman, the man who admits killing Trayvon Martin in self-defense. My own first thought after the tragic death of Trayvon Martin was that George Zimmerman was guilty of manslaughter. But special prosecutor Angela Corey perhaps missed an opportunity for "justice and peace" by charging Zimmerman with murder in the second degree. Since that charge requires that a guilty defendant must also have acted with "depraved mind," there's a good chance Corey may fail to prove the charge. The widespread and explosive media coverage would be the first target of any competent defense attorney. The "Daily Beast" says Zimmerman's new lawyer Mark O'Mara is a good one, already raising media concerns about a fair trial for Zimmerman. Trayvon Martin's parents have maintained dignity even in the churn of events following the shooting death of their son. His mother, Sybrina Fulton opined on the "Today" show that her son's death was "an accident." Does that help Angela Corey? "The Lookout" quoted Fulton saying she wanted Zimmerman to face the charges "even if that means that he may be found not guilty." But her forbearance is sure to be tested at any trial, especially if Zimmerman is acquitted. Meanwhile, prosecutor Corey claims that political pressure didn't play any part in her decision to charge murder in the 2nd degree. That's a statement fiercely challenged by many observers, including conservative talk show host Sean Hannity, according to the Daily Mail. What will happen if the prosecutor fails to prove Zimmerman guilty beyond reasonable doubt? Will fractious groups who have been militating for vigilante justice take to the streets in an orgy of violence? Media pundits conjecture that Corey wouldn't have charged 2nd degree murder if she didn't have evidence we don't know about. Yes, but forensic evidence could just as well lead to Zimmerman's acquittal as much as it could lead to his conviction. Angela Corey Should Bargain Zimmerman Case Down to Manslaughter - Yahoo! News |

Trayvon Martin mom Sybrina Fulton retracts ‘accident’ comment: ‘George Zimmerman stalked my son and murdered him in cold blood’
UPDATE, 1:20 p.m. ET: Trayvon Martin's mother Sybrina Fulton, who said on the "Today" show early Thursday that she believed the killing of her son was an "accident," has retracted those comments. "George Zimmerman stalked my son and murdered him in cold blood," told MSNBC in a separate interview. EARLIER: Trayvon Martin's mom, Sybrina Fulton, said in an interview on the "Today" show Thursday that she believes it was "an accident" that George Zimmerman shot and killed her son in Sanford, Fla., on Feb. 26. "I believe it was an accident," Fulton said. "I believe that it just got out of control, and he couldn't turn the clock back. I would ask him, did he know that that was a minor, that that was a teenager and that he did not have a weapon? I would ask him that I understand that his family is hurting, but think about our family that lost our teenage son. I mean, it's just very difficult to live with day in and day out. I'm sure his parents can pick up the phone and call him, but we can't pick up the phone and call Trayvon anymore." Zimmerman, who is being charged with second-degree murder, is currently being held in protective custody at the Seminole County jail, awaiting a court appearance. Earlier in the interview, Fulton said she is prepared to endure the trial, "even if that means that he may be found not guilty." "We just want him to be held accountable for what he's done," Fulton said. "And by him not being arrested, that would not have been done. So we are happy that he was arrested so that the committee gives his side of the story." Tracy Martin, Trayvon's father, said he believes police bungled the investigation, which led to the delay in Zimmerman's arrest. "First and foremost, I think had the Sanford Police Department done a thorough investigation from the beginning, George Zimmerman would have been locked up from day one, and there wouldn't have been such a huge public outcry for the arrest," Tracy Martin said. "And if, in fact, we had to plead our case to public officials just to get him arrested, if that's what we have to continue to do to plead our case, then that's what we'll do."
