Grrr! I need to get those computer classes pronto!

In the meantime, I ask your help.

For the last several days, I can't open links on my Windows 7 desktop PC. I will click on a link, and a new tab will open but it's totally blank. If I copy and paste the link, it will open OK.

I did some on-line troubleshooting searches, and most of them recommend doing stuff to the registry. I feel nervous about that. I'd rather try alternative fixes first.

Could it be anything else?

It happens that way in both Firefox and IE. One suggestion was to make IE my default browser, which I did, but that didn't fix the problem.

I have had that issue a few times (I use IE). What has worked for me is clicking on the compatibility icon (it's on the address bar and looks like a broken page).

Try this
CCleaner - Optimization and Cleaning - Free Download

I suggest you backup your registry first then ccleaner will clean out all your cookie, temp files, and clean fix registry.

I like Google Chrome and it's better than IE/Firefox and much less problem.

You can try Google Chrome. Sometime it's works better than firefox and Safari for high security like bank and employee like IE.

maybe it's your security programs that are preventing you from seeing the link.

I have to use IE because that's the only browser that certain edu, gov, mil sites will accept. :(

:hmm: I haven't changed anything, and I use the same programs on my W7 netbook which is fine. Is there a way to check that?

I tried that; I had high hopes it would that simple.

Alas, it didn't work. :(

Update.

I can get the links open on Firefox now (at least the ones I've been testing and comparing to the same ones on IE.)

The tabs on the IE links that don't open also glow strange colors.

Reba,

Try this:

Hold down WIndows key and press R (this will execute Run command)

Type this: iexplore -extoff (or you can copy and paste it)

Then click Ok

You will see a message says: Internet Explorer is currently running without add-ons

Now do the same process of what you are trying to do. If it did opened a new tab, that means that one of the "add ons" is the culprit.

Let me know how this goes

Have you used this before?

What's the best way to back up the registry?

Yes, I did it for many times and it's works great for all my customers. Thru Windows XP, Vista 32bit/64bit, and 7 32bit/64bit.

How to backup the registry?

For Windows 7

Start->type regedit.exe-> click file->export. That's it.

Tried it, a couple of times, just to be sure. No go. :(

OK, did the backup.

You wouldn't happen to have a solution that doesn't cost so much to download, would you? :|

You just mentioned that the link show a strange color...it's glow. Maybe it's a Black Hole... show up a blank page right? Did you try put your hand through the screen?

Ok ok ok.. I'll shut up.

uuummm.. ok so that doesn't work, I'm curious, when you open IE, do you have multiple tabs opened, like one tab is CNN.COM, second tab is your yahoo mail and such... you know it allow to open frequent pages automatically?

NP, yeah you can insert it to program. Doesn't work for me to do that cuz I will forget how to spell it. So, I always typed up command strings, help me to remember it better.

No. I only use IE when I have to, mostly for college related stuff. I don't use it for my mail or web surfing.
