My female friend's white MacBook was stolen at her condo last night. She need it badly. I hope her to find receipt and serial number. Should go to Apple store soon. Can they able to be MAC tracking to find it?

File a police report just in case. If your friend used Amex Gold/Platinum to purchase the Macbook, they may replace it for free.

However, you must have an account on your computer in order to do that. |

My guess is she doesn't have one. So she's pretty much screwed. The only two options she has is to get the serial number and let Apple know about it. If somebody brings the MacBook Pro in, they can check the serial number since it would be flagged. The other option is to give the serial number to the police and there is a good chance it'll never be recovered.

From what I know, if you give your serial number to Apple, they will send it to all of their Apple stores and affiliates. If a product come in with a matching serial number, it will be flagged and the owner will be notified.

Find My iPhone/Find My Mac must be set up before you lose your phone/computer via iCloud. Sadly this feature is not enabled by default.
When I get my iPhone 4S in a few months, the very first thing I plan to do is set this up. |

My friend left his Mac in a Costco shopping cart. They're both silvery grey and he was in a hurry.. Loaded up his car and left.. By the time he realized his mistake, it was way too late! We tried to call Costco to see if anybody turned it in but no such luck.
A while ago, someone stole my iphone. I texted that person and told them that I have an app that takes a picture and copies their fingerprint. Not true, but they believed it! I said if they met me within 10 minutes, I wouldn't turn them in to the police. After that, I downloaded an app called "My Folder" If someone clicks it and tries to guess the password (will be wrong) it will take a picture of the person and send it to me. I check it once in a while and will catch my friends nosing around my iphone! Bad, bad friends...

Just throwing this in the hat. Some Antivirus software, like trendmicro let you lock your stolen computers data from a website. Doesn't really help with getting your computer back, but prevents the thief from making use of any of your personal info.
