Windows XP allowed to live again
Microsoft has given yet another reprieve to its seasoned Windows XP operating system.
The cut off date for PC makers to obtain licenses for the software was 31 January 2009. But now Microsoft has put in place a scheme that will allow the hardware firms to get hold of XP licences until 30 May 2009. Previously Microsoft extended XP's life until 2010 - provided it was installed on netbooks and low-cost laptops. Windows XP was originally due to disappear off shop shelves on 30 January 2008. It was to be removed so as to make way for Windows Vista which went on sale to consumers early in 2007. Despite Microsoft's claims that Vista has sold well, consumers have reacted badly to its release. Microsoft granted the reprieve largely because of customer's preference for XP. Many PC makers also got around the restrictions by exploiting a clause in Microsoft's licensing terms that allowed them to offer a "downgrade" licence. Issued with a new PC running Vista it allowed customers to replace it with XP. The latest reprieve affects PC makers and resellers who were working to a 31 January 2009 deadline to order licences for XP. Many feared they would have to stockpile licences before the cut-off and hope they could sell them in the coming months. Now, Microsoft has changed the terms allowing the resellers to order before 31 January but take delivery at any time up to 30 May. The change in policy is another indication of the general resistance to Windows Vista. Early versions of Windows 7, the replacement for Vista, are due to appear in late 2009. I hope that MS keeps XP going until Windows 7 is ready to go. I've heard too many negative things about Vista to ever put it on my PC. I use the computer as much as some folks talk on the phone or text.

![]() I am seeing Windows 7 coming out soon!! I sure hope they fix it right this time. Or everyone will stick with XP like a glue. Seem like XP became everyone's favorite OS that are lest failure on OS except for virus and trojans that murders it. Why can't we all jump into Linux bandwagon! ![]() Catty |

Block to BitTorrent in Australia?
Australia loves censoring and filtering things on the internet, but its government hasn't had its fill yet. Next up: blocking BitTorrent in the entire country.
Guess it shouldn't be too shocking coming from a country with a Censorship Minister, but this is still pretty ridiculous. Said minister Stephen Conroy posted on his department's blog recently that they were planning to test new filters to block BitTorrent traffic country-wide. Internet filtering plan may extend to peer-to-peer traffic, says Stephen Conroy | News | News.com.au Australia to block all P2P? Last edited by Chevy57; 12-25-2008 at 08:40 PM. |

Windows 7 is apparently a lot faster and less resource hungry than Vista.
Windows 7 also seems to have a lot of hype... I think that when something has a lot of hype, it usually ends in disappointment... As long as developers continue to support Windows XP, XP will not die even if Microsoft stops supporting it. As for our government internet censorship... Yeah, it is disturbing. I can't imagine what the internet would be like without p2p. I guess it would feel like the 90s again, where people use FTP or IRC to download files. Anyway, I am sure people-power will prevail..

Vista is run so better on recent PC like after 2006 with faster CPU and more RAM, x64 Vista is run so better than x32 Vista. Performance for between x64 Vista and XP are almost similar.

What about drivers? it would work with Vista drivers if hardware like Nvidia don't offers drivers for Windows 7?
