How to use BlackBerry-laptop internet tether

How do I use my BlackBerry to tether internet service for my laptop? I did the downloads and used the wizards to set it up with my BB and laptop but I still can't get the internet that way. I keep getting error msgs, so the dial-up doesn't connect.

Does anyone have any successful experience with this?

The reason that I want to do this is when I travel to MIL's house next year I want to have internet access. She doesn't have internet at her house. I can use my BB for myself but I want to show her things on the internet. The BB screen is too small for her to view comfortably. So I was thinking of taking my HP laptop with me.

I have Windows XP on the laptop. My BB is a Curve with 4.2.2 OS. My service is T-Mobile.

Any tips?

Do you have modem driver CD for BB? It supposed to include with package.

I did tested with modem on my BB and it worked fine on Windows because Verizon include driver CD on almost all phone.

Without modem driver would be very painful to tethering like happened to my att BB that don't have modem driver and alot of headache to work out then gave up.

If not then you could find proxy based application but would be more slower.

I was thinking about taking it to the T-Mobile office down the street. I have some time off this week so I guess that's what I'll do.

Hey! I found the info for ya Here's the link and hopefully you can get it working..

http://helpdeskgeek.com/how-to/setup...t-from-you-pc/

On my Sprint BB Curve, For example: My BB Curve 8330 connect to laptop using SprintSpeed software that I had to manually download from Sprint. It was not included in BB Curve CDrom that came with my BB.. I can use Bluetooth on my BB to pair it with my laptop's Bluetooth USB dongle and it connects as a modem!. It works nicely and don't need to use USB cable.

I googled search and there is another way to setup PAM, Here it is, scroll it halfway down and you should see "Tmobile's Phone as Modem plan" and software from Microsoft free download is called "ActiveSync" so I don't know if it's any good or not. Tmobile been quiet about it. Interesting!!

Here it is ..
Use Your Cell Phone as a Modem for Your PC

Good luck

Tmobile may have it's own Phone As Modem software. I did this by google searching. Here it is, scroll it halfway down and you should see "Tmobile's Phone as Modem plan" and software is called "ActiveSync"

Recheck my posting above you. You'd be surprised where's my original posting and been changed. I believe you quote while I edited my posting same time. Ooopsie. It was just the correction.

This website is taking forever to load I think I know what you r talking about "sprintspeed" bb modem software. I use that too.

Also you can use Bluetooth too. If your laptop have bluetooth built in or using Bluetooth USB dongle (like IVT Bluesoleil dongle). It works very well pairing as modem. It's kinda simple and straightfoward when I use it. It would be easier to use when in a hurry using laptop during lunch break and no worry about digging and plugging USB cable. But when it's not in use, Be sure BB's bluetooth is turned off or disabled to prevent hacker hacking ur BB.

I don't have Sprint or Bluetooth.

I stay away from Sprint since they wrongfully took money from Hubby's bank account.

Reba, I know a good friend who uses Blackberry on her laptop (wifi) since two years or so... if you still need her help, just send me a pm then I will give you her vp# if you do have a vp to contact her and have her explaining you how to.

I went to T-Mobile today. This is what I found out.

The guy that works there is a BB user himself but he suggested that I use tech support for setting up tethered internet. He hasn't tried that himself.

Also, the guy said that the roaming cost for out-of-area laptop internet was HUGE and he didn't recommend using the tethered laptop.

So, I guess I won't bother with it. Back to square one for ways to get internet when I visit MIL. Maybe I'll be lucky and one of her neighbors uses an unsecured wireless router that I can connect to, heh, heh.

While I was at T-Mobile, I asked the guy about 4.5 software for BB. He recommended it. So I might download that. I know there's another thread about the BB 4.5, so I'll check it out.

Thank you for updated & information I really appreciate that.. I can't believe retailer didn't give you site where you can downloading update for your BB..

Right here:

Did you know that T-Mobile already caught up with 4.5 OS upgrade for T-mobile BB users last month. You can upgrade 4.5 OS software, T-Mobile BB 4.5 Softwares , there you go, select, then downloading!

Enjoy with new software on your BB like new! Ha
