Need Help with VRS and Wireless Router!
Hey guys and gals, computer dunce here!
![]() Here's what I need help with .. There are 3 computers in my house. Up until yesterday, MY computer was the one that hosted the Comcast cable modem, the Motorola wireless router, and the Sorenson VP200 Router. The other 2 computers were the ones that were wireless. Yesterday, we decided to change the setup so that one of the other computers became the one that hosted the Comcast cable modem, the Motorola wireless router, and the Sorenson VP200 Router. The other computer remained wireless, and MY computer became wireless. (I have a NetGear wireless adapter.) Got it all connected and everything was working fine. Now, the problem. My other roommate, the one with the wireless computer, often takes his computer out to other places and when he comes back home, has to re-enter the Encryption key. Always forgets what it is so this morning I decided to make that easier by changing the Passphrase to a simple word we would all remember. I did that, and all of a sudden, none of the wireless connections work anymore. Including mine! We did go into our wireless settings to put in the new passphrase, and it will not recognize it. So .. how do I fix this? After I made that change, I can no longer get to the Motorola admin site. All that comes up is the Sorenson VP200 site and there are no settings there to change for the wireless router because that is Motorola. Hope one of you know how to help me fix this! Thanks in advance!Alleycat

First thing first -- you cannot change the settings on VP 200 -- sorenson has blocked it, you will have to call the tech support for its passcode.
-- Did you save the settings change when you changed the password? Some computers have automatically saved the automatic password to reconnect such as my computer, which knows my modem password where I don't have to re type everytime -- but you will beed to check the settings in the computer that has wireless conenction, there must be something missing with the settings that caused this error.

I just got off VRS with Sorenson Cust Svc. They're saying that I need to just bypass the Sorenson VP (disconnect it entirely) and just re-hook up the Motorola wireless router straight to my Comcast cable modem (just like I had in the old days before I got the VP). I've done that and I cannot get an internet connection at all. I've unplugged and plugged in so many times I'm wondering if there's any possibility it is the Motorola router itself that's gone bad and hence why all this started this morning. Do you guys think that's a reasonable possibility?

It is a Motorola WR850G.
I disconnected the Sorenson VP router entirely and tried to do two different things: 1) hooked up JUST the Comcast cable modem and I cannot get an internet connection at all, then tried 2) the Comcast cable modem AND the Motorola Router. Just like in the old days before the Sorenson VP came along. And I STILL cannot get an internet connection. The only way I can is if the Sorenson VP router is connected. What am I doing wrong ?? I'm so incredibly frustrated.

No. I am online right now.
I can connect to the internet ONLY if the Sorenson VP router is also hooked up. If it's not, then I can't connect. Either with just the Comcast modem or with the Motorola wireless router. When I take out the Sorenson VP router, the modem light on the wireless router goes red. Even when I have that directly connected to the Comcast modem. Something doesn't make sense. I am on the phone with Comcast now. Comcast was at my house about 2 months ago to give me a new modem and software (they were upgrading everyone) and I wonder if the tech set it up somehow to communicate only with the Sorenson VP router. It doesn't seem to make sense but .. I don't know what else to think!

When I do the ipconfig (in DOS) it gives me the 192.168.0.1 that is the standard for the Sorenson VP router in this area. It used to be 192.168.10.1 and when I typed that in online, it would bring me up to the Motorola admin site (which is where I was changing the passphrase.) But if I type that in now, it tells me the page can't be found. So if I type in the 192.168.0.1 instead, it brings me to the Sorenson admin site. Which is not what I need since I can't change any wireless router settings on the Sorenson site!

The modem is connected to the Comcast cable modem and the VP router so I'm guessing it's wired. I'm using my roommate's computer to do all this because I cannot get a wireless connection now.

Only way to do is change VP router's Local IP Address to 192.168.10.2. You can access both of router. But you dont need use VP router. Rid it and use Motorola's router only.

remove out Sorenson router. unplug power of all of Motorola modem and sorenson VP. Wait in few moments. plug power modem. and wait for full lights. You will open IE and type 192.168.10.0

Believe me, I've done all that. It's what I've been doing for the past 9 hours and none of it has made any difference. I either can't connect, or I get an error that the page cannot be found. Either with the .10 or the .1. I got off the phone with Comcast just now and they think there's a problem with the Comcast modem so they're coming out Thursday to look at this. I have done every single thing I can do with either just the router, just the wireless modem, and just the cable modem. Absolutely nothing has worked. Will update you all on Thursday as to what happens. At least I can get on from my Blackberry!

If one has wireless cable modem, the Sorenson VRS Router is not needed at all? This is giving me some hope to get the VP-200 to work properly again. I will try to get back to it when I return home. I had given up on getting it to work properly.

Could you clone a MAC address from your Sorenson VP200 router to your motorila? In the MAC Address Clone section of my Linksys, the MAC address will have to match with the modem that's provisioned for. If I clone a MAC address from my PC, then I won't get an Internet connection. If cloned from my laptop, my Internet connection does work.
This is called MAC spoofing.

That is an interesting question. Others mentioned it in this same thread too. How does that work? How do you connect to the VP/VRS without it? Sorry if that's a dumb question but if I can take that router out of the equation that would be great!
