July 11, 2007 - During Sony's E3 2007 conference, Sony Computer Entertainment President Kaz Hirai debuted the long-rumored redesign of the PlayStation Portable. At first glance it doesn't look very different, but Hirai insisted gamers would be able to tell the difference as soon as they laid hands on it.

The new PSP will be 33% lighter. It also will have the ability to output high-quality video, to a TV, for instance. Users will be able to connect the PSP to a bigger monitor and share their photos and videos.

The PSP redesign will be available in September in Piano Black and Ice Silver. A PSP Entertainment Pack will include the Ice Silver version, Daxter, the UMD Family Guy collection, a 1GB memory stick, and will put gamers back $199.

Oh, and right after this announcement, Chewbacca walked on stage. Microsoft and Nintendo conferences: pwned. He was there to announce another new PSP pack for Star Wars: Battlefront. It includes the new Battlefront game, Renegade Squadron, and the Ice PSP with Darth Vader printed on the back.

Back to topic, quit talk about Nintendo stuff.

I would wonders if PSP redesign will improve on control to decrease of hand strain, especially on analog stick.

I've been eyeing a new PSP ever since I heard about Final Fantasy Tactics being retooled for it. Maybe when the new PSP is $100. $200 is still a bit much to me.

Yup but you can wait til price cut in antime but PSP redesign does included with one game, one movie and 1GB memory stick for $200, that's worth about $50 or more on bundle.

It's up to you if want or not.

I do have PSP but I think about want trade into PSP redesign but need wait and see...

Hardware redesign

At E3 2007, Sony released information that a new version of the PSP will be released in September of 2007. The new PSP will be 33% lighter and 19% slimmer than the original PSP system. Along with the original Piano Black color of the original handheld console, it will also appear in Ice Silver. A special bundle package will include the Star Wars edition Vanilla White model with an image of Darth Vader printed on the backside of the device and Star Wars Battlefront: Renegade Squadron included with the device as a pack-in game. New hardware features will include a brighter screen, faster loading times, improved battery life, and a video-out port which will allow stored videos to be played on an external screen along with actual gameplay.[27] Also, another change was the removal of the infra-red port, since in the original PSP, there was an infra-red port, but has no use. Probably, it's because Sony wanted to add one or more features that used that port, but later changed plans, and decided to not add such feature(s), but left the IR port on the console. The announced price is set at $199.99 for the Star Wars bundle package. It is still unknown of the price of the core PSP redesigns. The "Slim PSP" is also rumored to have 64 MB of RAM instead of the older PSP's 32 MB or RAM to improve gameplay and game sharing. Demo video of the new device from E3.
