I'm going get new graphic card soon but I need find right pin, such as DDR or DDR2 and I have no idea that what pin size on my motherboard, all of them are PCI, not Express.

I need find something to get right pin for graphic card on my PCI but want know about which is DDR or DDR2, also my computer is around 4 years old.
 
Nevermind, I'm save for new gaming laptop with powerful GPU, such as GeForce.

Fuck to my old computer with PCI.

Aw sheesh! You're asking for help and drop it. Yes, get a new PC!! Don't bother old clunker! I wouldn't bother upgrading old clunkers if Newer board have PCI-E slot.

Okay, since you decided to get a new PC, but for your info, DDR or DDR2 as you said only applies to memory ram, not for graphic card. As for graphic card, there are such like PCI, PCI-E, or AGP.

At Best Buy website, they said 256MB DDR, 256MB DDR2 graphic card, I was just confused.

PCI is used to good in 90's when running on crappy 3-D games.

It just the type of ram on the graphic card.

As far I am heard from others that there is not much different in performance wise between the DDR and DDR2 rams either on motherboard or on graphic cards maybe only 5% performance gain on the DDR2.

What you want to watch for on graphic cards are the slot type (PCI / AGP / PCI-E) and video chipset ie (Nvidia / ATI etc) and higher ram the better. Also you want to see if it have it own cooling fan or a big heatsink. Some hearing people do not like cooling fan because of the noise it makes so they opts for a big huge heatsink with no fan and it will waste one slot on motherboard becasue of the thickness of the video card with heatsink.

Thanks for explain about graphic card.

Gaming laptop don't have graphic card or PCI Express but rather to use GPU chip.
 
I have a 512 MB nVidia GeForce 7300 GS card. Ran very well on both XP and Vista (and their Server versions too).

Laptop doesn't have "graphic card" but it does have video chipset which have a bus speed rating of a PCI or AGP or PCIe so you want to make sure the video chipset on your laptop is at the same counterpart of the chipset of the video card bus speed your looking for. Those PCI or AGP or PCIe slot is how fast a device can commuicate to the CPU ie bus speed.

There are MXM cards which are real video cards for laptop but many laptop manfactures doesn't want to accept MXM in fear that if you could upgrade your laptop then there no need to buy a new laptop anymore in future.

Here more info about MXM and which laptop have them but you may not be able MXM upgrade yet or it not avaiable in store or online just only come with new laptop. All about MXM

Oh really, I had noticed that desktop is better for games but laptop can be good with GeForce but won't look good on high resolution, is it right?

I'm going off to college in next Jan 2008 or so then I need laptop that better to run on games.

I would take Nvidia or ATI with 256MB and 512 Ram. It is good for gamer. One of my friend have laptop with good video card and ram and had no problem with his games.

yes a desktop would be better at gaming than a laptop because of hardrive and cpu etc.

A laptop harddrive is slower than a desktop harddrive and also laptop use a cpu called mcpu or mobile cpu which have only 1 bus speed and is probably at 100mhz so it cannot be ramped up to a faster bus speed like a desktop normal cpu can be.

Reason for slower harddrive and mobile cpu in laptop is to save battery power and to run at a cooler temp but gaming still runs fine in most high priced laptop however game may load up a tad slower while harddrive is spinning up to start the game and video might lag a tiny bit between game scenes while cpu is rewriting the video graphic card to display a new background etc.

Many newer laptop do run gaming fine with a good video chipset support in them. Just be sure to research and choose the right laptop.

Yup, more new gaming laptop are getting better, also I checked about between GeForce 7 series (for desktop) and GeForce 7 Go or GeForce 8M then they are not much different in spec, I was checked on wikipedia for compare. I don't know that hard drive that is slower in laptop but how about rpm.

I'm thinking about customize on gaming laptop from Dell, that's good idea but I don't want MacBook Pro because of 128MB in video chip and not many games are available, also cost more than standard gaming laptop with windows vista.

I have my laptop Everex XT5000T with Geforce go 7600 256mb with Vista, system ram 1GB no problem running some games.

If I upgrade to 2GB, video ram go up 512MB.

I sold Intel C2D 6400 and Evga 7900 GTO while ago, they are good but...got me new this laptop.

you have both 360 and PS3 right ? you dont need video card right now.

My advice to you hold off wait another 6 months, new laptop with vista along with first service pack 1 patch it.
