When I bought a new 512 DDR memory and installed in my computer then turn power on and pop up window says I have to reactivation. I dont have an internet yet so I called activation by the phone and they gave me the number. Then all number are invalid. I dont know what to do since they hanged up. It's crazy and dont know what to do becuz I dont know who friends have an internets. what can I do? should I bring to best buy to activation for me? I need do something before it shut off, I have only 3 days activation remind. PLEASE HELP! I will appreciate if you help me. Thanks!

Do you have your original Windows XP CD? There is a serial number on the CD envelope. That will work.

It is similar what I did on my Dreamweaver software, and I called the company to reset the activation because it prevents someone to steal my software.

Wow seem strange. Never had that on my system when I upgrade or downgrade DDR memory (I swapped memory plenty of times) LOL. Did you have Windows XP SP1?? That SP1 have lot of problem. If any changes on hardware cause XP to refuse to load desktop ect.. A year later after XP first came out. M$ finally churn out XP SP2 which allow user to change hardware (not motherboard!!) such as memory, graphic card ect without being hit with reactivitation..

Does your CPU case have XP key w/ hologram on it. Have you tried that?

Can you check to find out if yours is a XP Service Pack 1. If you do then you'll have to update it to SP2.. My advise is that try switch back to original memory stick and if you are able to load XP to desktop. Go to M$ website and download Service Pack 2 and install it. AFter installation. It'll reboot then you can try swap memory and it should'nt have any problem... It should NEVER prevent you from getting into desktop if you swapped hardware.

Thanks

It's won't work with original Windows XP, Stupid M$ think user changed new hardware (motherboard) and pop-up for new activation.

It's happen to me many times at customer when upgrade new ram, update firmware for BIOS, upgrade new version for chipset, and pop-up for new activation on SP2. That's gay! Old key won't work anymore. Only way to get new key from M$ thru phone. Some motherboard have no problem and some motherboard have problem like that.

Just remind you, Christo do not have internet so can't download anything.

Ummh strange. I've done with many of my friend's pc I fixed and upgraded hardware ect... I've NEVER encountered any reactivitation.. I even flash update BIOS too and did not pop any reactiviation. True that some mobo do cause problem with Windows XP. Had friend in past few days brought his CPU over Microcenter cuz he said he can't install XP. It did ran setup but not installation. The Tech tested his system and it turned out that it's a defective DDR ram. He reuse DDR from old system to new board. I told him I've never had plm with my system LOL. He was a bit jealous cuz he always have problem with every system he built for himself ROFL.. I found out he bought cheap quality mobo which caused problems. His friends who had built system from him had similiar problems. So they turn it to me to fix. I discovered it's a graphic card had issue with cheap board so I use my graphic card, Bingo it worked fine.. Other system with similiar cheap board had plm with CDrw drive that won't burn cd while mine does work with his CDrw drive. I always buys high quality boards tho. I"ve had a discussion with him abou the mobo issue. Don't buy cheap branded board!! Buy good one! LOL.

Guess that Christo have to call M$ for new key..

That is really strange to me. I have installed 2 GB DDR2 RAM and turned on, it didn't asked me for the activation.

Maybe Christo must have done something that cause M$ XP to pop up reactivitation. Anyone care enuf to explain him how to crack it

Some versions of XP require activation after hardware upgrades. If you don't have an internet connection then you have to contact Microsoft for assistance. Moving forward here is a way to pervent this from happening again. Follow these instructions.

If you reinstall Windows XP, or add additional hardware you normally have to reactivate it, but there's a way around reactivation. Windows XP maintains the activation information in the file Wpa.dbl, which you'll find in the Windows\System32 folder. After you activate, back up the file to another disk. If you need to reinstall Windows XP for any reason, go through the installation routine, then copy the latest version of Wpa.dbl to the Windows\system32 folder.
Note: You must have exactly the same hardware configuration as when you first ran the activation.

Yup. It's is for original Windows XP that first came out. it's the one that cause many customer became enrage with M$ problem. That's why M$ churned out SP2 that stopped all those problems. Too many people changes hardware for upgrade or testing. I too changes hardware alot to test or fiddle around. M$ tried to stop piracy but realized that it doesn't work that way. They thought that registering hardware to M$ would prevent piracy. Their phone line were overloaded right after first XP came out. They realized that they cannot force people to register their hardware to M$.. That's dumb move!! So they decide that WGA is another way to prevent Piracy which is better than registering hardware to M$. There's always a WGA work around. One of my system is "cracked" (who cares!).

Is that why Bill Gates broke the trust law in the old days related to your issue?
He didn't revise the program - wow! That's bad.

Forgot to add that.. You might have remember that when Windows 95, 98, and ME was in use back then. You can move hard drive to another CPU (or swap mobo) and it'll reconfigure hardware automatically. I've done that many times. That is reason why some seller transfer copied hdd to another PC or pirated many copies and sell it. That's why 2K and XP prevents anyone from moving hdd from one system to another for security reason eg.. Identity theif... BUT I did came across one website in past explain how to trick XP to accept another system by deleting hardware configuration list in Registry. I've tried that and didn't work. I didn't bother research more how to do it cuz I don't have time. I have kids in my face all the time that's why. LOL.

WOW! PurpleCatty was right. I bought cheaper mobo that's why I get reactivation. I bought Wins XP w/ SP2. But last night I called M$ twice time and they put me hold for 1 and half hours. It's killing me! I miss my favorite show Hell's Kitchen last night... Then finally they gave me correct numbers and it's work! So note to myself I will never buy cheaper mobo or older. I will buy new mobo and etc for next new computer. Also ofc I will get an internet soon. So Thanks everyone for feedback and helping through with it.

Yup! M$ still broke trust law today tho. Look at Vista, many customers having problem using Email ect after upgrading to Vista. It's waay too secured and also there are lawsuit against computer manufacturer that sold PC and Laptops with label "Windows Vista Compatible". Mine is one of them. After Vista churned out and many upgraded their system w/ Vista. They found out it's not the way it they wish for. Like example.. They upgraded memory and graphic card to meet Vista requirements and tried to install Vista Preminuim or Ultimate. It didn't work the way it should. Many got pissed that "windows vista compatible" were only compatible with Vista Basic!!. My lappy can either work with Vista Basic or Preminuim. Acer offer $88 for Vista Preminuim. I didn't bother purchase it cuz I don't want to jump in Vista bandwagon till next few years due to bugs ect.. LOL.

So it's nothing new about M$... It is not suprising that they DONT bother cut price on XP further when Vista is coming soon. This explained too many people using Pirated copies of XP cuz they can't afford it cuz price of XP still sky high even if it's old. Had one friend who purchased Windows 98SE for $99 when XP SP2 churned out years ago!!! My opinion. Just like any movies and musics. Price dropped constantly cuz new one are coming in. IMHO.. XP should be around $15 to $25 once Vista come out.

Just like Example.. PSP2 console. the PSP2 controller still "stuck" $24 when PSP3 came out. same goes for PSP2 memory. ONly way to buy it cheap through Ebay.

So give you idea it's wrong for M$ to keep price high even though they reduced just only 20% to 30%. That's not enuf!! M$ still make billions from Vista now.. Greedy world tho.. They only make it worst, piracy will continue to be around until they drop the price to the level where it's not worth use pirated copies when it's cheap to buy without worry about WGA issue.. They need to play Walmart way to keep customer happy!!! LOL

That's really unbelievable! I am sorry about your situation. Perhaps, it is a good idea for us to buy the Apple computer without any hassle - I mean someday. What you think?

It not M$ preventing you from moving harddrive around.

You can move harddrive with XP installed from motherboard to different motherboard.

Just need to delete the harddrive controller from System Device before you shut it down and move it to another motherboard

Motherboard all have different harddrive controller that why you get a blue screen at boot up when you move harddrive with XP installed from one motherboard to another because it could not load the previous motherboard harddrive controller at boot up and give you a blue screen error.

You betcha! Let's pray that population gotten so tired of M$ and switch over Apple

Apple are good. I don't have one myself but was a former AppleIIc owner in olden day.. I agree that buying Apple is less of a pain.

Try Linux too. They're free but the only drawback is requiring some UNIX learning curve. Some Linux are easy to use without requiring UNIX knowledge for newbie.. But the problem with Linux is that when browsing online. There are plug-ins which are limited for Linux.. You can't play some certain games or get around that requires Shockwave player. Some require certain type of Media players that Linux lacking. But while I use Linux to browse network, I encountered few problem and ignore it cuz I don't use it. It can run Youtube video no problem. I still love Linux cuz it's stable and no worry about virus and hacker intrusion. Look Ma!! No firewall and Antivirus!!

But in the future Linux programmer will eventually get it 100% compatible with any plug-ins hopefully..

Hey friends,

I have a question I need to ask you --

Is it true that everyone who has a Window XP in their computer is a MUST to change to Vista next year ? I heard some people talkin' about Window XP will be useless, because of the new Vista. :-\

I have my own new PC that has a Vista in it. I also have another old PC that has a Window XP in it.

Not sure if this is what you mean but XP still do have support til 2009.. here is:
Microsoft Watch - Operating Systems - Consumer Windows XP Gets Another Life(Cycle)

Under the revised life-cycle guidelines, Windows XP Home and Media Center support will end on the second Tuesday in April 2009, and extended support will end five years later. The latter five years is significant. Microsoft doesn't typically offer extended support for consumer products.
