Now a new year has passed since the HD-DVD and Blu-ray were out afew months ago so HD-DVD for Xbox360 and Blu-ray for PS3.

Take your pick.

I think you know mine since I'm an Xbox lover.

If I were a conservative betting man, I'd put money on BD. If I were a gambling man who loves the odds, I'd bank on HDDVD.
BD has some significant assets\allies. Storage capacity and Disney support.
While BD may not be the definite format yet, it should be in a few years when more and more people have a pS3.
For example, Pacman probably won't touch a BD disc until he gets a PS3.

Now, they are making hd-dvd and blu-ray combo player. Same for hd-dvd/blu-ray burner. Also companies are going to make hybrid both sides for blu-ray and hd-dvd. No more format wars. That is good sign!

This isn't really a good sign for HD-DVD because once the combo players come out... they may be tempted to release movies on BD only to save production costs. Especially when BD is getting more support from the studios than HD-DVD is.

At CES (Consumer Electronic Show) next week, we will see Warner Bros. unveiling the hybrid disc format.

Ought to be interesting.

What's the difference between blu-ray and dvd?? I've never heard of it.

I am not here to choice one of those.. I just want dvd for anythings.

For example, some game from Riddick, Doom 3, Gears of War's graphic is AWESOME CRISP on regular tv. its not special hd dvd or blue ray... that why I just go to buy these casual dvd like gear of war games.

those are nothing important to me.. sorry!

You love any old fashioned stuff without HD.

You did complained that storyline is short on GoW due limited spaces on DVD.

Yes, about Warner Bros. for both formats. Yes, BD has more support right now. HD-DVD might decline soon.. Will see about that. People still buy BD and HD-DVD. Will find out by end of 2007. I have a feeling that BD will win for 2007.

I went to a couple of stores that had both HD discs and BD had more shelf space. Although I have an HD DVD on the Xbox, I'll still wait until the price comes down to get a dedicated unit to put in the rack. A couple of years from now those things will be a lot cheaper and you'll find those drives everywhere from stand alone units to the computer.

so far I have three HD-DVDs...King Kong, The Fast And The Furious, and Constantine. all look definetly great in true HD form.

plan to get more in the future.

Just heard from EGM that China is developing another format to go...so now it will be THREE formats in the HD format wars...

good luck, china!

I think you got it mixed up. They managed to get some Chinese manufactorers to sign up for the HD-DVD format. They're going to start making cheap HD-DVD players. I'm not sure how this is a good thing since China has no committee for quality control. While the idea of a cheap HD-DVD player may be attractive, but the quality won't be there. That's for certain.

As of December 24, Blu-Ray software sales outpaced HD-DVD for the first time... and you want to know how big of a gap it was?

20%

Yep... they outpaced HD-DVD for the first time a couple weeks ago and by 20%! That's nothing to scoff at. It made quite a wave through the A/V (audio/video) enthusiasts.

Universal Studios didn't make any title announcements at the CES (Electronics Consumer Show). A lot of people were surprised that Universal didn't even show up at the show. A lot of people are starting to get worried about Universal as rumours are going around that they may be going either neutral or Blu-Ray.

HD-DVD is headed for a bumpy road ahead now that Blu-Ray is outpacing them. It's quite troubling that HD-DVD is already having trouble trying to keep the supporters on board. Even LG is making a Trojan horse out of their Blu-Ray/HD-DVD player. LG is obviously intending to kill the HD-DVD format by severely limiting the HD-DVD features, which is why LG may end up not getting certified by the HD-DVD committee.

This is going to get even more interesting within the next couple months.
