I am just wonder if deaf people have work with Cisco device at workplace? I am a network administrator for telecommunication company and I work with 2 Cisco PIX firewalls, 1 cisco catalyst 2950 switch and 11 non-cisco switches with 24 ports each. 9 racks for the Interactive Voice Reponse devices and 2 racks for SAN.

last semest when I had a networking class we used cisco stuff. In the labwe worked in we had 6 racks of cisco routers that were all cros linked together and a sweet wireles atena that could bepicked up on the other side of capus if you poited the patch antena the wrong way.

Linksys is part of Cisco.

I know. Cisco device is different from Linksys device, and you work with CLI (command line interface) on cisco devices. It is like MS-DOS command and you control the network traffic with cisco devices and make the rules on it. Linksys have no CLI and not many options like Cisco devices.

Yes, but what this authur means is a BUSINESS type networking devices made by Cisco. Cisco makes routers and switches and everything for most ISP, large businesses who can afford their equipments. Cisco happens bought Linksys, and use them for residential uses only. Linksys with Cisco and the device with Cisco logo alone is HUGE different!!!

Easy recongize the difference is color, Cisco alone devices is covered with dark or olive green, while Cisco-linksys have blue/black all over.

Linksys is part of Cisco.

Yea, that is something I'd love to learn. Eventually I will, because where I work right now would end up force me to learn. eh!
I couldn't learn much on my own because these routers ain't cheap!

You can buy used router from ebay. I got myself a router from ebay for approx. 100 I believe and it is very CHEAP and model #2501. I find that it can be boring with one router. It is best to buy two or more routers for more challenge practice.

I use Cisco devices for the military and my civilian job (3rd largest bank in New England). I am hard of hearing-almost deaf even with two hearing aides. You don't need to hear to work on cisco but, to design, configure and engineer to your customer needs might be a little challanging. There are meetings involved and unless your company caters to ASL then it might be a little difficult. Also, we do a lot of conference calls when problems need to be fixed. My opinion..it's definatly workable and you can do it.

I work with people all over the world by email, im and text chat. In todays world anything is possible... Never say "CAN'T"!!!

I don't have a job yet. I have been a classes is Hardware A+ and OS (Software) A+ and Support Desktop.

I have to take a Certification test. I have to.

I guess you can send e mail and practice my test. :D
