Linksys question

I had problem with my family about refused to set WEP on Linksys to protect our computers from hacking the internet but I told them that if someone who try to hacking the internet via Linksys. It can cause to slow the internet and lag on gaming online. I did explained to them about need set WEP and I cannot join Xbox live until they are accept to set WEP on Linksys.

I let them to call computer technician.

I need find website that would warn to them about risk on Linksys.

Even with WEP hackers have successfully broke in WEP based wireless system. It is really basically joke!
Wanna better security? Go for WPA or even better WPA2.

In wireless world, nothing is 100% fool-proof. WPA2 is now harder to hack in, but eventually somebody will find out the weak link and hack in.

Yea, I had found out...

Now, I will try to set WPA instead of WEP.

I doubt that hackers can break in WPA but wait and see.

My point is, "eventually" what it means that right now probably no hacker have success with it, and it does NOT mean hacker will give up! They will keep trying and trying and trying til found the crack to pass though, once they found a way, they will surely share with their hacker friends then what WEP would become? Get my drift? That is why it is very important to keep in your mind that NOTHING is forever 100% safe.

If cracking into WPA is successful then Wi-Fi Alliance will introduce new strict security.

Why does I care about security? I cannot put wired router because we have 3 computers and all of them are wireless since wireless router is on table with modem.

I don't want talk about stupid hackers.

Yeah, but people who lived close to your home. They need to use wireless, and some people doesnt have router. They use your wireless router that is open. No protection like WPA. Yes, WPA is better than WEP. But WEP is easier for first time users. Experienced users like me who have WEP before and changed WEP to WPA or WPA2.

Reason to avoid for people can go to your IP address. Also they can use your wireless to play games, when you hooked up and you play game. It caused lagging and slow.. USE WEP or WPA, you will not have any lagging at all!

I want tell you what happen to me before. When I first got DI-624. when I got DI-624 I thought all my computer and my computer don't need security and it have automatic protecting security on my router from hacker. So I leave my wireless free for awhile. Until my internet seem so slow. So I check who connect to my router guess what I found out that my neighbor have been using my internet for awhile four different computer using my internet without my knowledge. So I unplug DI-624 for few min. And I plug back and set up key Secuirty quick and I check all my range in my home area see if there any free internet in my home area guess what there no free internet so now I know why people are trying get in my internet. Now I am more knowledge how to use D-Link I will always set security no matter what and I will check log who have been enter my internet in D-Link Setting Area.

If your using a wireless router, use MAC information to only allow certain computers on your network, deny the rest.
