Computer Experts.... can you help me?

I am at school, as residential student, and well since a couple of years now, the computers at school had blocked msn and anychat programs on the net, and email programs like hotmail etc, except they have not blocked gmail (yet) and well since they started this blocking spree, we students had always found another way to use msn and chat programs using web-based msn etc, and using proxy sites for emails and stuff that is also blocked from us students. Well, the more and more website we find and use for msn, emails etc, the adminster finds out (from some students tattling, or being stupid to use them in front of the staffs and counsellors around the school and residence buildings) and he blocks the site, causing us to find others instead. Anyway, now the adm had added to the list of denied access websites (chat progams, emails, games, and other approiate (makes sense) like nudity and porn and drugs etc that i dont mind because it makes sense. Anyway back to the point, the adm had added proxy to the list, and now i cant seem to find any sites that allows anonymous surfing on the net. For msn, I don't really care much about msn cuz i dont use it much while i am at school (makes sense cuz most of my friends on msn are at school) anyway, so my question to you computer experts... is there another way or trick to get around the blocked sites to check my emails?? Any ways will surely help me, and I would appreiate it.

Also, downloadable programs, softwares, and stuff will not be downloaded, as it is blocked as well, so i cant download any programs that may help surf the net anonymously.

any helps and advices will be apprieated.
Thanks

Are these classroom computers that you are supposed to be using for school work only, or are they general access computers like in the computer lab or library? is this a public school or private school? What state are you in?

The best resolution is that you bring/purchase your own laptop. No school officials would touch your personal items....

Well, that is one issue, all the computers in school are connected. So the school and the residence computers are the same network. Generally they are general access computers or something like that. I live in canada, so I go to a provincial school, in ontario.

haha mookie, I wish i could buy my own laptop, its my dream!

I don't think it matters if she buys her own laptop or not... the point is that she has to go through the school firewall/proxy server, and that is where all the sites are blocked.

I bring my own laptop to work, there are *some* sites that are blocked at work, but I can access them from home.

theres ways around that if your using your own personal computer. depends on which OS your using also. With Linux its easy to get around it as well as a MAC... But on windows based pc's its a lil tricky also, if your just using there ip there should be no way its editing your settings. I would get in contact with a network admin at school and advice them of this...

They blocked several sites included emails..

You can ask them how can they reach their parents via emails? How do their parents reach them via email? Think about it. Blocking porn sites and other scam websites is perfectly making sense. Blocking other sites like msn, yahoo, gmail, etc.. is downright silly.

Really? If I were her I would get lappy with my own wireless Internet service set up. And tell school HAHAHA, you can't beat me!

Changing OS (to Linux, or MAC OS, or whatever) would NOT solve the problem at all. Why? That is because school networking does not give damn what OS you are using! Everything in networking is based on IP addresses, and once the administrator blocks specific IP address and your basically out of luck. The only way to do is crack into their router system. Yes it is in the "router" It can be stand alone router or server acts as a router. I bet it is the server, and you have to hack in it to break it loose for yourself. Hey you don't have to work from inside... You could go home and try to hack their router and screw up (my advice...use fake proxy server so you won't get traced).

After all of these ideas,... I think the easiest of all is to get Sidekick or MDA.

Not really, Each computer has a list and you cannot bypass that administrators rights unless you have the user name and password to access it. Otherwise forget it. I have tried it myself. If you have your own laptop and your wireless card then your line will be blown wide open, where you can access porn sites or whatever. Serious. My computer knowledge level is borderline imm. to expert. So sorry it is not working out for you.

Well, if these are, essentially, the only computers to which you have any access on campus, you and other students have a good case for insisting common e-mail sites be unblocked. You have legitimate academic and familial uses for e-mail. I would suggest you gather as a group to voice your concerns, and get your parents involved.

You're pretty much screwed. Where are the computers and where are you finding the time to use them?

I know here Oklahoma, USA. I read the newspaper that one kid who is age 12 old or not near 15 old. The library caught what the kid were doing; kid have rights to do this because that time they didn't creat that policy to force people sign about the internet before start using borrow library. The kid's parent suing the library for kid's right.

I think that silly to sue the library while the library do the community. What a deal!
