Cued Speech in action
Teacher of the Deaf, Tina Kirwin was involved in the BBC filming. She wrote:
‘Last week the film crew from the BBC came into school to film the cue club and the year 6 pupils, who are South African and Somalia, doing their weekly spelling test.
The results achieved were those expected: 60% correct when the word was signed to them and 100% when it was spoken and Cued Speech was used - no surprises there. But what happened next thrilled me - I cued to
the girls the names of the crew, Jamie and Amie, and one of them cued it back to herself, noticed they rhymed and spelt them correctly on the white board.
