RIT has been making a lot of changes regarding housing during the past five years. They have been getting worse and worse. I recently found out that they just got worse... AGAIN!
During 1999, they did their annual housing lottery for returning students. Seniors were given first priority to choosing where to live on campus for the next Fall. The rest were given second priority.
During 2000, those priorities changed. Instead of Seniors being given first priority, Freshmen were given first priority. Everyone else got second priority.
During 2001, they reopened Ellingson after it was renovated during the academic year of 2000 to 2001. Before... Ellingson had one study room, one television lounge, and one kitchen (couch, sink, & microwave). After... the old study room became the new television lounge, the old television lounge became the new kitchen (sink & microwave, but no couch), and the old kitchen became another dorm room. Peterson and Bell were also renovated.
During 2002, Peterson was fixed up a bit. Before... Peterson had one television lounge, one kitchen, and one study lounge. After... the old study lounge became another dorm room.
During 2003, they changed the housing lottery. Instead of Freshmen getting first priority and everyone else getting second priority, it's now based on yearly status. First year students get first priority. Second year students get second priority. Third year gets third and so forth.
Now, they fixed up Ellingson a bit. The television lounge has been converted to another dorm room for three students and some dorm rooms that were specifically designed for two students are now occupied by three students.
What's next? No more kitchen? Argh!
